How long before you were engaged?

So I'm just curious

How long were you "dating" before your so/or you popped the question?

I'll be back in the UK in sept. and I've got a "feeling" my boy is going to propose! Hoping he does anyways We'll have been dating 5months officially by then...so just curious to know how its went for others!

DH popped the question after five years of dating/LDR. We were also officially living together for 4 months at this point. Even though I always crashed at his place almost everyday for like 7 months prior anyways (same building we lived in). My situation is "weird" because I was 19 at the time and DH was 22. We're happy though and I wouldn't have changed anything even if I had the chance.

May not be the data point you're looking for since it didn't involve an LDR or US/UK relationship, but...

- previously engaged several years ago after 2 years of knowing each other and 18 months of dating. Broke up 10 months later (thank Goodness)

- currently dating an Englishman (in person), have been for about 8 months. Figure there's no chance of a proposal until post-November when he's met more of my family, and would be surprised if a proposal showed up before next summer at the earliest. We are living together, though, which is going quite well (so far).

Not in a LDR, but I knew my fiance for almost two years when he proposed - we had been dating for one year at that point. Our marriage date is about a year after the proposal, the end of this month actually!

Ed and I were in an LDR for almost three years when he proposed, although we knew from the first week we met "in person" that this was it! (Ed slipped in a "when we get married..." into a conversation that first week and I thought oh my! yes! :-)) we've been together almost 9 years now, and married for 6 in January!

Just over two years as an LDR couple, year and ten months after first in person visit.

Two months after we had first met.

15 months from when we first started penpalling, and a year from when we first met face to face.  We got married 7 months after getting engaged.

Mine was 5 months as well but were married 7 months in ;-) DH and I are happier and in a better place that I had ever been in my life.  My prior relationships were YEARS so I dont judge the timeline.

One year in person/living together, then nearly a year of LDR before the proposal.  Of course, DH always said he didn't want to get married, so even after that time, it was a surprise.

1 year and 310 days. I'm only being so specific because I literally got engaged last night!!!!!   

We did 1.5 yrs of long distance and I've been here for the last 4. We both wanted to make sure it would work as well in person as it did 5000 miles apart. Needless to say it has worked!

We dated for five years and knew each other for 6 and a bit.  It nearly did my mother in, poor thing.

Roughly three years after we met online, a year and a half after we realized we weren't just friends, a year after we met in person.

I say roughly because I never really got a formal offer. It was just sort of assumed, and he would say things like, "I'm perfectly prepared to...ummm...you know..."
