Here I am!
« on: August 04, 2011, 12:04:39 PM »
So I left the 110+ degree heat of Oklahoma on Friday the 29th and touched down in cool breezy London on Saturday! I was SO tired and after so much packing, planning and stressing I was finally just ready for a nap...so that's EXACTLY what I did while my husband drove us home to Wales.

So here I am. I've been here less than a week and I still don't think it's really hit me that I'm REALLY here! We've been going pretty much non-stop since I touched down but today I'm finally able to sit and breathe. I'm currently drinking a diet Coke (which I think tastes different from the US version) and watching UK Border Force 2 (Ironic?).

I am so happy to be back with my husband and am so thankful to everyone on this board that has helped me with sorting through the muck of visa hell!!

You got here just in time for a heat wave. No, seriously. That was a heat wave. Stop laughing.

I've been here over two years, and I'm still walking around thinking, "isn't there something I should be doing...?"

Welcome!

(and I'm definitely with you on the Diet Coke thing. It tastes way too sweet here--same with Diet Pepsi. I've just about given it up, to be honest!)

Each country or sometimes region has their own coke recipe.  I prefer the diet coke in Germany myself.

I haaaaaaaaaaate admitting to this but I actually complained about being hot the other day. It was only once, though! We were sitting in our car watching boats pass by. The car was turned off and after a few minutes I was boiling! The weather is absolutely gorgeous, though, in comparison to Oklahoma! The sky is blue and clear today so I've actually done some laundry. I can't even remember the last time I had to hang laundry on a line. We have a dryer but it's in the garage and I saw a massive spider so I skipped that option.

Speaking of spiders - I was under the impression that the UK didn't have ginormous spiders. I was wrong. True, they're nowhere near as big as wolf spiders in OK but they're still pretty damn big! And fast! Eww eww eww. I was also told that people don't really have ''bug guys'' come spray homes because the bugs that wander inside can't hurt you? I call bullshit. It may not bite or sting but when I see a bug in my home I have chest pains and I might could die!

It tastes like the first time I ever had diet soda - very aspertame-ish and cloyingly and fakely (I know that's not a word) sweet. Soda is also way more expensive here. I do believe I'll be giving it up! Along with cigarettes. I came with 2 packs and am down to half of a pack. Once those are gone, I'm done. There's no way I'm shelling over £7-£8 for a pack of smokes!

I'm quite happy that I was able to track down All My Children episodes on YouTube. My mom has been watching this show for the past 40 years and I've been watching on and off for the past 20. Have been addicted to it for the past several months and am glad I have a chance to keep up with it before it goes off the air!
