I've had a few people contact me but none really knew what was going on.

This was sent to me today and brought tears to my eyes:

It always amazes me for everything horrendous thing this human race does, theres always good people out there willing to help and care. This and communities coming together to help with clean up reminds me there is still some real good in this world.

Love the tray!!

With a name like Johnny Walker, maybe he should have been serving something else!

We also think that there has been very little coverage in the states, until last nite (states time). Seems like an awful long time to go. We're not in London, but I was trying to explain to our Texas friends that it was as if you were living in Austin and there were massive riots and fires in San Antonio, to give them some idea of how crazy this all is. And that doesn't even begin to address the population affected, given the obvious discrepancies between SA and London!

Very glad that everyone here appears to be safe. It's quite unfortunate that such a thing has developed.

;D

Fantastic!  I'll drink a cuppa in solidarity from my desk in Texas. :)

I was very disheartened to learn that the rioting had spread to other areas such as Liverpool.  It's all just so senseless, and I sincerely hope everyone over there stays safe and that the worst of all of this is over.

That's just class right there. Someone brought those folks up right! Their Mums will be so proud

Truth!!

My friends and family in the US were completely unaware of the rioting until I mentioned it.  They say that the US news coverage has been more about the economy and loss of the AAA rating.

My friends and family had heard of it and got in touch. They are mostly of a rightward persuasion -- you think maybe different media outlets reported this differently? It's been all over the front page of Drudge, for example.

I only just got an email from my mum today, who claims it was really my grandmother asking if I was okay. If they could only see Harpenden they'd understand... riots will only come here if Waitrose decides to close.  ;)

I was notified today by Ty Brennan of KTVB Boise, Idaho via my FB page that he wanted to talk to me about the rioting in London.  I told him I do not live in London but about 24 miles South.  He then asked me to call the newsroom in Boise Idaho so I did.  All he wanted to know was how the riots made me feel and if I thought it could reach where my DH and I live.  I told him I thought it could be possible but unlikely.....anyway he asked me before he had me start talking if he could record the conversation, I told his yes.  Then he told me that that phone conversation with him would be on the 5 and 6 pm news.  Then he asked me to send him a picture of myself to use on the newscast.  So the folks in Boise Idaho were aware of what was going on and if they weren't they are now!!!!!  I was interviewed along with another person from Idaho who lives in London....anyway that is how Boise learned of what was going on........Hope things have quieted down and all of you are safe tonight and can sleep in peace......

Bit of perspective about the Government's outrage.  Not that they shouldn't be doing their jobs, but it really puts some of their sound bites and media appearances in perspective.

I just wanted to say that I'm thinking of all of you who are in areas that have been affected by the riots.  I hope you're able to sleep easier tonight.  Stay safe.

Interesting...

I'm ashamed that people across the world have been able to watch the mindless thuggery and criminality that has been on display across a number of major UK cities over the last few days :-[  The footage of the young Malaysian student who was beaten and then robbed by youths pretending to come to his aid is absolutely disgusting.

On the other hand, listening to the Asian guy in Birmingham calling for calm and peace not long after his son had been killed was truly inspirational.

And seeing that (the last i saw) over £14,000 had been raised on a website for him!
