Car insurance Liverpool
« on: August 08, 2011, 06:19:18 PM »
Just wondering if anyone in Liverpool (or a more urban area than Norwich) has had a similar experience.

I have a very used car, purchased two years ago for £250.  When I look at prices to move our insurance to Liverpool, I'm being quoted around £800-more than double what I pay in Norwich.  We're 'upgrading' to a £500 car and I'm getting quotes around £1100.  Same situation-no accidents, claims, had my license for 4 years over here, etc.   The cars aren't even worth enough to claim anything on them-not doing comprehensive or upping the voluntary deductible does nothing.

Is this normal? I've checked all the normal price comparison sites-I've resigned myself to have to pay it, just wish it wasn't quite so much more!

The insurance amount can depend on things like where the car is going to be kept and the safety of the area you will be living in, as well as things like the engine size of the car etc. It could be that where you are living in Liverpool is considered a more high-risk area to keep a car (in terms of possibility of damage to it or crime).

When I moved from my parents' house in Bristol down to the city centre of Exeter last year, my car insurance went up by £200 just because of the change of address. I'd gone from keeping the car in the driveway in a small suburban town to keeping it parked on the side of a busy road in the centre of a city.

Then, when I moved from Exeter up to a small town in the countryside of Shropshire in April, the insurance went down by £200 again... because now I'm keeping the car on a safe driveway in a sleepy little town :P.

From my reading the posts on here it seems that the thing to do is use an agent to get the best rate. Ironically my father was an agent in Liverpool for all his life.

Sorry if I missed your issue because I think I did.
