Quick Skype question- leaving tomorrow, answer please!
« on: August 12, 2011, 06:18:13 AM »
I'd like to set up the Skype payment plan where I am able to call any U.S. cell/landline for $2.99/mo (if you pay 12 months, you get 15% off, so it's that reduced rate). My question is, if I set it up in the U.S. and then I move to Scotland tomorrow, will I be able to call the U.S. with this plan, or will Skype know that I'm in the UK and not allow me to call the U.S.?

Is it only U.S. to U.S calls for that plan?

Or, do I have to set it up as living in the UK (pay the UK to U.S. rate) so I am able to call the U.S.?

I hope that makes sense.

Thank you in advance- I hope someone understands this and has experience with this!

Hi!

I set it up before I left and it was fine.  That's the plan I have (though I've since switched to paying it in £s, but I was paying in $ for about a year).

Good luck with the move!  :)

I have a US skype account set up on my UK computer and make calls every day to the US.  You can use it wherever you live.

NoseOverTail, not sure why I didn't ask you (or did I? You probably already answered me at some point- forgive me; this move!)- you've helped me so much throughout this whole process. The day is finally here! I owe you coffee, lunch... something! Thank you!

Thank you, too, lisapower!! Both of you getting back to me so quickly... much appreciated.

I pay my skype on US dollars, that way I avoid the VAT.  :)

How did you manage that?  Mine switched over automatically when I came here.

I can't remember- maybe I paid one time in the US visiting my parents or something. I have been using my US bank account too, so that probably helps.

It all depends on your method of payment.  I use a US debit card or a US paypal account,

I set it up and made sure it worked... it works over here at least for now! What amazing technology we have, huh? We shall see what happens when I get over there, but I am certain it will work because of all of the great responses I've received on this amazing forum.

Next, I'll be asking about setting up a number so that people in the U.S. can call my UK cell! ... but that'll be a while, if I have the money, of course. (Hoping and praying for a job!!!)

This forum is AMAZING- don't know what I'd do without it (except be horribly anxious and terribly lost!). Everyone here is so wonderful and knowledgeable!

Scotland, here I come!!!

What you need for that is a Skype online number and it costs $18 for three months
