UK Taxes
« on: August 15, 2011, 07:11:52 PM »
I am a naturalised british citizen. My husband is a US Citizen. We are living here in london. He wants to move back to the states after his spouse visa expires. Which i will join him. My question is will i have to file UK tax every year if & when we move to the states, just like my husband & all US citizens living & working in the UK?

No, unless you have UK income (such as a UK property that you rent out).

The US (and Libya) are the only countries in the world that tax their non-resident citizens.

The UK and most other countries will not tax you once you've left (you can apply for split-year treatment so you won't be UK tax resident from the day after you leave).

Capital Gains for sale of UK property is a bit more complicated and takes longer to be exempt from UK tax.

No, the UK is a civilised country. The US is one of very few countries that taxes its citizens wherever they are in the world.
