Hi Everyone
« on: August 19, 2011, 12:44:06 PM »
Hiya,
I've been wanting to get in here and introduce myself but really just found the site as now we are maybe going to have to move back  :\\\'(  to the States.
My hubby and I originally met while we were going to the University of Illinios in Urbana back in the 80's but loved coming to the UK so much we came over as often as we could and were even married in Edinburgh in 1985-- we love Edinburgh!---(so long ago).  We also lived near Lancaster/York PA for 20 years while the kids were growing up then decided it was time for our adventure and we came to the UK on a work permit 5 years ago and have been living west of Birmingham and teaching ever since.
Unfortunately now the WP is up and we have applied for ILR but are now waiting. We don't feel as confident about our situation as we are both Americans and we are iffy on a couple of the new criteria codes.  Anyway right  now we are preparing for scenarios A  and B simultaneously which has been a major headache as we have a house to sell just in case........
Anyway, I am so grateful for this site over the past few months as I have been able to come on and find loads of helpful information.  Thank you so much :)   please wish us luck.     bierleyrose

thanks for the words of encouragement.
we are almost 5 weeks in waiting for the ILR process at this point and it looks like people are waiting about 12 weeks for a decision. it would be great to know if anyone on UKY knows of people being recently successful (or not) with ILR in cases in which marriage to a UKC is not involved.......most everyone i read about here is getting ILR for relationships......
just wondering if we stand any chance of staying ......
it is really difficult being in immigration limbo for so long and trying to prepare for two different outcomes.......anyway, thanks again for your help

I think you stand a good chance of gaining ILR because you both have good occupations here. It isn't like you're tapping into gov't funds for a payout.   Let's keep hoping! :)
