From all I know, which is little, herbal and mild could be ok, but sedatives in an older cat can be dangerous so best to stick with the recommendation not to sedate.

My cat is 16 and still spry and active, so I do intend to move her over with me.

I have one question though - do pets get jet lagged? She has this thing about waking me up between 5AM and 6AM. I am hoping that she will stay on America time, and not wake up until 10. What are the odds of that?

I have a feeling that once she adjusts she will still wake you up at 5-6! The time change never upsets this in my cats!

Both my dog and cat slept quite a bit after they arrived (for the first day or two), but that was about the extent of their "jet lag". Unless you can force your kitty to stay up until bedtime, I wouldn't count on her staying on US time.

Yep, your cat doesn't want picked up like some I have had and have now! The mother cat I had for 13 years was just like him, very loving but don't pick her up. She shredded two big women who tried to but her in a carrier. I hide, like out in garage, as it distresses me so and then they pick up those bad vibes. Whew!

Fortunately my little kitty is declawed, so no tearing people up. I'm taking her to my friend on this Saturday, and I'm already very sad about it, but my friend has two other cats and two very sweet children that I think my kitty will get along with well.  I'm going to spend the day over at my friend's house when I bring her to see if that will help her adjust to a new home.

Oh Jillianbean, I feel for you. This time last year, I had three cats. One was so sickly, that it was time to let her move on anyway. The second and youngest I re-homed with a good friend. It was very, very hard but luckily the friend understood and sends me pretty regular Facebook updates. Just think how good it will be for those kids to grow up with a lovely cat to watch over them. And whenever they see kitty, they will think of you.
Sometimes I amaze even myself.
