Infertility Help in UK

DH and I are struggling with my possible infertility right now.  It has been a real roller coaster for us emotionally.  He is super supportive and does not make me feel like I am inadequet in anyway for having this problem.

Our goal is to move to the UK in the next year or two.  We have been married nearly 5 years and living in the USA. 

I am wondering if I have a better shot at getting pregnant in the UK and if things like IVF are truly more affordable in the UK.  I am 36 and have no time to waste.   

Anyone been down the infertility route in the UK that would be willing to share their experience and insight with me?

I haven't been down this route myself but my understanding is you can only have a limited number of IVF treatments on the NHS, I think it's 3, and I think there is an age limit. You might be able to find more info form the NHS website: http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/index.asp

Thanks for the link Britwife!  I will do some digging around there for some answers.  That way if we have run the gammet of our options here we have things to consider when we move to the UK.

having started on this route myself, i would suggest meeting with your local [or soon to be local] GP as soon as possible. waiting lists for fertility treatment or even just a visit to a gyno or fertility specialist can take up to 6 months. the GP is the gateway and they will probably have to put you through initial test/screening, which also takes time, before they will even refer you to someone who *might* be able to get IVF treatment for you.

i'm not knockign the system, because at least there is a national health system, but everything takes a long time and you just have to assume that will be the case and be very proactive.

We have been through all sorts of testing and procedures already in the USA.  We are excited though as we were on a break cycle and not trying because I was scheduled for another small surgery to investigate why i am not getting pregnant and boom.... I am pregnant!  No need for the surgery now!  CRAZY!  But so exciting.  

It has been a real roller coaster but so far everything looks great.  So I wish you loads of luck in your journey and if you need any good resources for support, friendship and information regarding fertility let me know as I have some great resources that I would never have survived this journey with out.

Our little dual citizen peanut is due June 20, 2005!
