Also SE9 is covered by the Local Authorities of Greenwich, Lewisham, Bexley and Bromley. Two of which are outer boroughs of London, so I wouldn't classify SE9 as a wholly  inner London postcode either.

I'm down there, so if you have any questions GibbyGab, feel free to send them to me :)

zomg, Avery Hill is not in London :P :D You should totally live around Lewisham, Sidcup, Eltham or something :) Will be affordable and your DH should have an easy drive out to Cantebury, I have friends who live in Hither Green and really love it, easy trip into town and really cheap, shops and restaurants and pubs.

Cheesebiscuit, have you also gotten into a verbal spat with someone about what is and isn't considered 'London?'  :P I remember my very first week here and one of my pretentious flatmates getting annoyed because I considered central London as part of 'London.'

I said: Yeah, I went into Central London today. I went around Oxford street, Piccadilly Circus and by Hyde Park.

She grumbled at me and snapped: That's not London!

I just shrugged off her comment and mentally rolled my eyes  ::) :P. It was after all my first time in London and hadn't yet seen Central London. My goal for the day was to buy an A-Z book so I thought where easier to find it than in central  :P

I'm not really sure what she was going on about! So I guess you'd consider the area immediately around the Strand/Charing X  etc Central London, but I pretty much refer to everywhere in Zone 1 as Central London. Oxford circus, is what? A mile from Charing Cross.

I consider most things to be London that are actually in London, but there definitely comes a point where suburbs are not really London anymore, that point is open to interpretation of course.
For instance I applied for, and took a job in Hayes, it was advertised as a London job. I do not consider Hayes to be in London despite it being in a London Borough.

This is a whole different topic that we could start! I consider anything outside of Zone 6 to not be "London". But whatevs.

Back to the OP - I know your DH has a car, but I highly, highly recommend you look somewhere that has good rail links for both of you. It'll be a benefit for sure.

This. Personally, I'd pick somewhere approximately in the middle, with good rail links like Maidstone or Chatham or something so neither of you has the onerous commute while the other gets to be really close.

I had someone once tell me that too, and I think what they meant was that it wasn't London because it's all touristy and nothing unique, just high street shops and naff fast food chains.  Whatever.  It's London.

Oh man, I'm just having such a hard time finding anything in the area that's not a house share. Anything that is self contained hits the 500-600pcm mark and that's so much more than we're paying here in Leeds. Can anyone throw a link my way with some studios? I don't care how crappy as long as there's a form of a roof  :P.

I don't think even she knew what she was going on about! LOL I think she meant that Central is not real London where real people live. I remember asking where she considered was real London and she named some obscure market area. She's part of the nutty hipster lot who can't enjoy themselves unless they are in an obscure, indy, unmarred by commercialization area.  ;)

Response to that is absolutely "get a life".

Have you read louder than silence? It's a married couple who write a Shoreditch hipster-wannabe blog. I feel a bit sorry for the people who wrote it as they were savaged by the Guardian last week, but they say the most ridiculous things, it's hard not to laugh at it. If it were ironic it would be perfect, sadly it isn't.

Gibby, hate to break it to you, but if you can find something for £500 a month within 50 miles of London, it's probably a bargain or it is infested with rats. :/

Can you get student accommodation? Unis may have something for mature students you can try and rent.

omg rats? I had a mouse infestation previously and that was pure hell. I can't imagine a rat infestation.  ;D ok I'm officially desensitized to the outrageous prices and I'd rather pay a bit more and get a place that won't have critters.
