European Health Insurance Card
« on: August 24, 2011, 05:57:20 PM »
Hey everyone

My girlfriend adn I are thinking of going to Europe in the next few months. I have read the official website and this thread http://talk.uk-yankee.com/index.php?topic=54496.0 which is 2 years old. Just wondering if anyone has more recent information.

You don't need ILR to apply, right? I recently got my FLR(M) - unmarried partner approved. Can I be my gf's dependent if we're not married, or do I have to post the form and a copy of my residence permit? Anything else?

The other thing I wanted to ask is whether anyone has actually used the EHIC. Reading all the stories about people being refused by GPs doesn't make me confident that the Europeans are going to know about the NHS rules.. Of course we will get travel insurance as well.

I got mine before I had ILR. I do carry it, but I've never had to use it so can't help you there.
The only meaning anything has is the meaning you give to it.       ~Author Unknown

Your partner can ring up and request an EHIC card for you and it will take less time than filling out the form on your own.
