I got mine for $1.65 and free shipping on Ebay! I read about the tradition a couple of months ago and the rhyme came back to me from the recesses of my memory, something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue and a sixpence in her shoe! So I got one in my birth year  :)

Oh that's not a bad price at ALL!!

I will have to check Ebay out then!

He says he wouldn't but come on - that's one of those things you just don't pass up to do. :p

I wouldn't mind putting a sixth pence in my shoe. Wonder were I could find one....

I got one from an antique store ($Maidenname's Antiques) from the year my husband was born for £0.50.  I also got clear jell insoles for my shoes and put the six pence under it. I couldn't feel it but it was still visible (when I wasn't wearing the shoes).

Love that! What a great idea for the six-pence.  I forgot that I did the sixpence in my shoe too--it was my something old, as mine was Victorian (along with the diamond in my ring, which was my mother's).  I dithered around about the something borrowed and couldn't decide until my future MIL showed up with a pretty pair of pearl earrings that she had worn to her wedding and her daughter had worn at hers--it was perfect and I was honoured to wear them.  She was clear that I did not need to feel I should wear them, but I thought they were perfect.

I wore a garter (which had blue ribbon and was my something blue), but we didn't have him fish it off--I've never really liked that either and truthfully didn't really even think about it until we got back to our honeymoon suite and remembered it was on.  We did feed each other cake though, but we most certainly did NOT shove it into each other's faces.  I've heard some say that's an American tradition, but I don't see it that way.  Who wants to put that much money and effort into looking good on your special day just to have cake shoved all over your face and up your nose.  I always felt that was tasteless (no offence to those who like doing that--just my feeling).  Happily, DH never liked that either and he was very clear that he did not want it to happen, which was fine by me.

My 'something blue' was my knickers!  :P :-X ;)  We didn't do the garter thing either (I didn't even wear one) because I also hate that tradition.

I already have all my stuff:

something blue is my blue dark blue, glittery ballet flats
something new is my diamond and pearl drop earrings
something borrowed is my mom's pearl bracelet
something old is the necklace my fiance's gran gave him that he gave to me.

But I def. wouldn't mind finding a sixth pence.
