Black beans?

Does anyone know where to buy black beans in the Birmingham area
My second child loves them but I can't find them.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You should be able to find black beans in any larger grocery store- usually they're located in the 'world food' section.

Out of my local grocery store options, I can only find them at Waitrose.

I did that but I could only find pinto beans.

If you want dried, look for turtle beans.  Ocado sells them, but they are write pricey, I one of my big tescos had them and they also sold them at the metro in town, but they have been out of stock for a while. I had a long discussion with a staff member about how black beans were not the same thing as black eyed beans.

I usually get mine from a caribbean shop in town (they do kraft mac and cheese, look aid, and malt I meal as well). The brand I get is Tropic Sun or something like that.

They're in my local (larger) Sainsbury's. With the other beans, but in the organic section.  They're in a cardboard box, not a tin can.

Both Asda and Tesco sometimes have them, but they don't look like they are in stock at either at the moment.

I find the cheapest place to get tinned black beans is Asian (ie: Indian, Pakinstani, etc) supermarkets. A tin costs me about 50p instead of the 99p per can price at the health food shop.

Dried black turtle beans are cheaper still - my Tesco stocks these in their "whole foods" range.

If you end up having to buy dried rather than canned, keep in mind that, because they don't sell very quickly here, they might be rather old.  They're still fine, but the difference is that they can take up to twice as long to cook.  So, you really have to plan ahead.

Morrisons stocks them (dried) with their whole foods range section of various beans & pulses.

I've found them at Sainsburys & at a health food store in city centre (Leeds).  Haven't looked elsewhere because they were reasonably available at the normal places we shop.

Yup, I found them in the Sainsbury's in Tunbridge Wells, in a box. Who puts beans in a box? Strange.

I found it to be hit and miss if I could find them in the larger grocery stores.  I finally found a local (not the big chain ones) health food/grain store that stocks them fairly regularly--although he tells me he often won't stock them because when they come to him they are often so old, he sends them back with a demand for better quality.  Then he has to wait for the next order to come, and they sometimes just send the old ones again.
