Really odd. I always found Nine West to be narrow and hurty-pointy at the toe, and loose and ill-fitting at the heel. I can't tell you how many times I lost a shoe walking up or down stairs at work!

Haha, well to be fair, they've always been too narrow and hurtly at the toe to worry too much about the heel! I currently have a pair of basic black wedges from Nine West but I don't remember ever buying a pair of shoes from them otherwise and was really surprised when the wedges fit.

Mrs R, what US brands of shoes did you buy online? We seem to have similarly shaped feet, wider at the front than at the heel, so maybe they will work for me in my size.

I haven't bought any yet - I'm going to wait until I'm there & try them on first!  I was just 'window-shopping' online.  :)

I've taken to sometimes buying men's shoes for a 'utility' shoe - like walking boots or trainers...the men's shoes like that seem to fit me better.

My steel toes are mens' shoes, and nobody is the wiser.  I'm in the US and have gotten some cute, wide shoes at Payless.  I wear a 9.5 wide.

I suppose I will just have to save my shoe spree pennies and do some shoe shopping in the States next trip. I'm a US 8.5 wide for dress shoes and an 8 wide for trainers. I can get by with men's trainers here, but sandals and cute shoes seem to be hard to find for me.

Evans is probably the best place (in a shop) here to find wide shoes - with at least more to choose from.  Clarks and M&S do a few wide fitting shoes, but selection is very limited.  You can probably find more through online retailers, but I'm funny with that - I like to try shoes on before I buy (and not faff with returns).  And even with the wide shoes available, they often don't fit me exactly right or the selection is so bad - I end up disappointed.  So it's managing your expectations really - don't expect to find something you like & that fits, then if you do - bonus!

I do well with finding wide widths at BHS.  They have a good selection of wide widths.

Thanks to both for the tips! :) I'd hate to think I had to wait nearly a year to find shoes that work for me, especially if I would actually find a job. I've nearly given up searching, but it will come in time, and I doubt I'd get by wearing Crocs, combat boots, or trainers at most jobs. Silly me left the good shoes at mom's (where we have lots of stuff still stored) because we do a LOT of walking to get around and most of my other shoes just aren't practical for that. At least I know I have options for finding shoes.  :)

Oh thanks for that, drofnnyl - that is one place I hadn't thought to look!

TamaMoo - I'm not sure what your dress size is, but Evans is a store for plus sizes.  However, don't be put off if you're not a plus size (you don't have to buy clothes there, lol!) - just that nearly all of their shoes are available in the wider widths.  :)

I'm also a plus size. Even when I was thinner, I had to wear wide width shoes. Mom has said even as a baby/toddler, I had to have wide width shoes.

I'll check them out too. :) I do love boots, but seem to have more trouble finding them to fit than I do shoes.
