Hotels in Scarborough?
« on: September 12, 2011, 02:38:04 PM »
Anyone have a recommendation?  We have stayed several times in Park Manor, but they do not have a front room available for the next two weeks. The standard rooms are extremely tiny, and I am very claustrophobic.

What we are looking for is a decent sized room, en suite of course, and a shower (no "bath only" rooms). Free Wi-Fi would be great, as well as a bar in the hotel and breakfast. Anything else is a plus.

Last year we stayed at the Grand Hotel.  I cannot say enough bad things about it!  The rooms were en suite with a shower, but ours was in the "old" part towards the back (sea view) and it was dirty and in disrepair. The rooms were never cleaned properly and dirty dishes sat outside rooms for ages. It was not nice at all - a shame as you can tell that the hotel used to be quite spectacular at one time.

We had a fire alarm one night which sent us out into the street for a while - it must've affected the whole block as the hotels directly across from us were also evacuated.  We spoke to a couple who were staying in the Riviera Hotel across the square and they had high praise for it - you might want to check them out.

Best of luck and enjoy your holiday!

I've stayed at the Grand hotel too in Scarborough, we had a basement room which was cheap but very small and no windows, and we didn't get signals on our mobiles down there either. They did serve a breakfast in the morning though. There are also plenty of B&B's if you wouldn't mind going that route you'd have plenty to choose from. DH and I are going to Scarb soon and we picked the Travelodge this time, which gives you all the necessities but isn't anything special otherwise.

Oh yes, I've read many a bad review about The Grand. DF seems to recall there was a problem with food poisoning some years back.

I looked up the Riviera and it looked quite nice, but the size room we want is booked/unavailable for when we want to go. :(

We've narrowed it down to two places at the moment, unless any other glowing recommendations come in:

or

I'll post a review on this site after our stay just in case others are looking for places to stay in Scarborough in the future.
