BA World Cargo? Any experiences or recommendations?

O...M...G!! I love my dog dearly, but $3600??? lol. I just got a quote from Continental and it's about $1400. That includes the customs people on this end. That $3600 must include all of the paperwork? Sheesh, that's a disgusting amount.

Yes, basically the pet relocation specialist handles all aspects. But I think I will be fine. I've gotten great advice from people on here already. Hannah will have her blood test in October so she can come in April-May timeframe. I had not looked into Continental; but $1400 sounds okay to me.

Don't forget the rules change Jan 1st 2012 so you won't need a blood test and it will be 21 days since vaccination, not 6 months since titer.

Yeah, you'd think the dog came over in a golden plane for that amount. Lol.

Continental seems to be the cheapest, about $200 less than BA. Good luck with your baby. I can't wait to see mine.

When I was getting quotes, the prices were pretty much the same. Virgin had a slightly higher price if the pet was unaccompanied, but the baseline price was still over $2,000 for me to fly my cat/dog.

I think you can fly Icelandair or Iceland Express, and they'll accept your pet as excess baggage rather than cargo (which is a much lower fee, like $200 per pet or something). Those are pretty limited routes, though, so that probably won't work for everyone.

Just to share a personal experience about Icelandic Air. When i was younger, my dad booked us to see a few countries in Europe and stopover in Iceland and so we flew on Icelandic Air from JFK. There was an issue with the plane. It lurched forward and came to a short stop...causing people to smash their heads in the seat in front of them. They wouldn't tell my mum what was going on and we didn't speak Icelandic, although I assumed they did speak English. My mum got up and left the plane on the tarmac. She had a bad feeling. The flight eventually got to Europe okay; but instead of landing in Belgium in the afternoon, it landed in Germany at 3am. So we chose not to use them again. However, I am sure their service has gotten better. I would be nervous though if they only considered my pet as baggage... is the area ventilated well and such?
It is $$$ to bring a pet over. My brother aked me if I wanted Hannah, my Catahoula to stay in Florida while I go explore for a few months. But Hannah is my baby; so she is coming along!

They fly the pets in the same area either way, it's just as excess baggage you pay a fraction of the price.

I was told that the pet area is separate from the baggage area (but apparently pretty quiet thanks to all the bags dampening the engine noise), and it's climate controlled/pressurised, just like the passenger cabin. They apparently used to have lights/CCTVs down there so that the flight staff could monitor the animals, but they found those to just keep the animals awake/nervous, so now they use dim/no lighting and most animals just sleep through it. (My boys both came out pretty bright-eyed and bushy-tailed so I'm guessing they slept for most of the transport.)

Good to know. I would hope Hannah would sleep through it as well!

Follow up...I received another quote today. Sure, we can move your Hannah from Tampa to London all for the low price of $4595!!! Are they nuts?

Wow! Are these people on crack?! I seriously think they make it so hard (and expensive) to keep people from bringing their pets over. That is ridiculous.
