Also, be aware that the council can change the laws about rubbish pickup.

For example, when I first moved to the house where live now, we had weekly rubbish pickup. Now it is fortnightly.

We have alternate collections, so one week it's the big general rubbish bin and the following week it's the recyclables. As there are just the 2 of us thats fine for us, we tend to fill the general rubbish over 2 weeks.

My point that it might not be a good idea to choose where to live based on how and how often the rubbish and recycling pickup is done, as that can change.

Nottingham just won a bunch of awards for being a clean city. I'm afraid of what that means for the rest of the UK., but if you think Notts is bad...

Absolutely.

When I first moved to my flat, all collection was weekly.  Now (without any notice as well) the rubbish collection is weekly, but the recyclable collection is fortnightly.  And man oh man, it's hard to fit all our plastics in our bin for 2 weeks!

I also thought there was tons of rubbish on the streets in the UK, but nowadays when I got home to visit my parents in the suburbs of NYC, there is so much trash on the side of the parkway, I am always stunned.

In my neighbourhood in Manchester, we don't have rubbish on the streets, if you put even one single bag that makes the top of your grey bin open, they will take it out and leave it for you with a warning sticker. We have 4 bins. 4 bins...its great, but 4 bins take up a lot of room, and to be honest, the food waste recycling bin is putrid most weeks.

Well of course I wouldn't choose to live anywhere based on that fact alone. It's just a pet peeve of mine to see loose trash on the streets/residential areas. I'm sure where I choose to live I will get used to the pickup schedule etc..

Haha well the area of Notts that I saw (city centre) it was, but where my boyfriend lives wasn't bad at all ;D
