Police Certificate (again!)
« on: September 08, 2004, 06:13:21 PM »
I have just downloaded the application form from the Police website and noticed that it states;

What documentation is required ?
The original copies of the following documents will be accepted as proof of identity: (Photocopies are only acceptable if notarised as a true copy by a Notary Public, JP, or British High Commission)

Panic!
Not at all comfortable with not only Royal Mail these days, but sending off original documents - how did you all deal with this please ? Last time I did a notarized document in the UK it cost me a small fortune!

The website is local to my area GrnEyes- but check with your local Police Authority to see if they have the forms available online.  Alternatively, google your police authority (by County) and check the links under anything like " freedom of information/Data Protection Act" to see if they have the forms online.

When I called ours, the woman offered for me to get it by mail, in person or online, I was impressed, she gave me the precise location of the PDF'S as well. ( She was in the information department).

As for the documents being original, I shall wait for someone experienced to come along ( ahem Marlespo etc!) nudge nudge! and let me know how they did it!

My husband got the form from the polics station. He went there in person, showed them his passport, and they mailed off the form - with no original documents with it. Perhaps it is different for different areas? I'm not sure... this was Cambridgeshire. Or maybe they only need the original docs if you are mailing it in? I'd call your local and ask specifically, as I'm not sure...
I'm done moving. Unrepatriated back to the UK, here for good!

My hubby did the same - I got the form from the local police station, and he simply took it down there with his passport/driving licence and the £10 fee.
timeline:
3 May - I-130 mailed
16 Jun - DS230 mailed
13 Jul - NOA received
15 Jul - Interview on 17 Aug
17 Aug - Got VISA
