Running a hair dryer is one thing, but a KA mixer is another.

You can get houses with both US/UK voltage.  I have seen some advertised in the areas around US AF bases, but they are in the middle of nowhere and are pretty expensive.

Adapters are fine for the odd regular plug. But for things that use a multi-voltage 12V transformer (like external hard drives), the shape of the 12V transformer doesn't always lend itself to using an adapter. This strip allows you to plug in the US devices and then plug the strip into the mains. Some have surge protection, some don't. Well worth the $$ IMHO, and more stable than adapters.

It's no big deal to run appliances on a transformer if you use common sense. A lot of power tools are 110V and building sites are littered with transformers. The Tacima brand is made in the UK, and has plugs for US appliances, and are more attractive than the old industrial transformers.

I keep wondering if it would even fit on the counter in a UK kitchen.

IMO, it's a mixer.  I'd ditch it.

What kind of food processor do you have?  i have a really nice cuisinart.  We are moving to Edinburgh.  Where are you moving?  Maybe we could trade if they are comparable?  Just a thought.
