I have never even heard of a lardon but now I am compelled to seek them out.  Sounds like something that would be perfect to put in my baked potato soup! And I love bacon bits!

I thought everywhere had lardons?!  ??? :)

Well Morrisons has always had them anyway - smoked or unsmoked, just like the regular bacon (theirs really are just cubed regular bacon).  Also, I buy pancetta lardons at Sainsburys - they come in wee little packs of two with a perforation between the packs.  Perfect size to have just a handful for making soup or sauces (I use them as part of the base for bolognese sauce), etc.  I keep those in the freezer because it's easy to pull out one of the small packs & cook it from frozen whenever a recipe calls for it.

Similarly at Morrisons I often buy the small packs of chopped chorizo which is 2 individual packs....just right for a recipie.
