One thing I have noticed here is how high most of the charity shops (at least in Blackburn) seem to be. I have seen things a lot higher for what something comparable would be in places like Matalan, brand new. I know the money goes for a good cause, but I can't justify paying more for used than I would for new.

What I loved about the last town I lived in there were a lot of rich people and a lot of people who pretended to be rich (lots of debt, but hey, I can pretend to be rich types) so there were loads of name brand clothes worn once, or still with the tags on at Goodwill and Salvation Army.  Plus, you can always count on Elder Beerman's very, very end of the season clearances to have things that used to be $50 and up for $1 - $3.

One of the first things I asked to be mailed to me was some Twist Tie closures for bread bags.  I know it was probably silly and I could have found a different way but I didn't like the little stickers that are on bread bags and felt the wire ones did a better job.  Trivial I know but made me happy:)

Hooray! It's not just me!  ;D I hate those little sticker things with a passion. Once I can finally pry it open the first time, it seems it never wants to close back and stick. I much prefer the little wire ones, and keep some on hand from various electronics we have purchased. They are holding up great but I will bring some back with me after next year's trip home.

Rather than the twist ties, I much preferred the plastic tab with a hole in it -Much more effective! (Not that I've bothered to look for any)

Some product we buy comes with twist-ties, but they're about half the size they should be and an absolute booger to twist up.

Twist-ties. Things you never see coming.

I'm confused - my parents have been buying twist-ties here in the UK for over 30 years... I don't think they've been without them for more than a few weeks in my whole life :P.

As far as I know they are widely available here in supermarkets and other household goods shops etc.

We've had this conversation before. Well, not necessarily you and I, but it's come up before, with about half the respondents saying Britain is the Land of Plentiful Twist-ties, and the other half saying they can't get 'em.

All I know is, my silverware drawer used to fill up with the darned things, and now all I have are a few thoroughly inadequate specimens.

I don't think I've seen them in my supermarket, but I bought a jumbo pack of them at Lakeland over 5 years ago and they're still going strong!

Hmm, well I know my dad buys them all the time because my mum uses one every day for her sandwiches (and has done for years) and we've been using them to seal our bread bags since I was a baby... it's very rare that there aren't any at all in the house.

I'm not too sure where he buys them though (I normally just 'borrow' some when I go home).

The pounds shops sell the reel of twist tie that you cut your own length.  I prefer the metal alligator clips for keeping bread bags closed.

Very festive and cheerful! I had no clue they existed over here, but I will certainly be looking for them now. It seems funny in a way to think about buying them since they seem to come 'free' with everything. Maybe it is just that my house was overrun with them because they came with the trash bags, but we just tied a knot in the trash bag instead of using the twist ties so we always had millions on hand.
