I had to laugh when I saw the KOME logo on your posts!

Cheers, Anne.
I'm glad someone could relate to it!
Don't know how old you are, but do you remember a KOME jock named Dennis Erectus?
Yea, man, those stickers used to be on the rear windshields on the cars of most South Bay Area stoners...until we realized that the cops were using them as profile red-flags.
What, a KOME sticker? Pull em over, Danno!

Santa Cruz...Yea, used to get these...how to say it?... "tattoo stamps" in the park behind City Hall :P...

Also loved cruising up Hwy 1 north towards Davenport & Half Moon Bay to kick back at Hole-In-The-Wall Beach (AKA: Panther Beach). Used to be one helluva party there on 4th of July. Literally thousands of people/stoners would show up. But all that ended after about 1984...Cops...New rules about No Parking from 10pm til 6am (the best time to be there!).

Thanks to everyone who has welcomed me. ;D

I don't know why it took me so long to find this site, but I'm very glad I did. It's way better than another Expat site I was looking at last week...way better.  [smiley=smoking.gif]

He's clearly a Californian! LOL!

Mr. Toke, I'm nearly 36. Dennis Erectus is only very vaguely familiar. I never actually listened to KOME - I listened to KSPB (mod girl.) And my mommy would never let me near that park!  ;) So I just sat in Cafe Pergolesi and drank coffee all night. Never made it to Panther Beach as the one year it was on the agenda I fell at a Christmas party (yes, because I was blindly drunk) and broke my foot in three places!

Hello Anne, hope the foot healed alright. :)

Hello David, I don't remember the site. It was an international pen pal site and I was specifically interested in NON-romantic correspondence. But, it's always been said that love comes to you when you're not looking for it...

BTW, we met on April Fools Day.  [smiley=laugh4.gif]

 ;D ;D ;D

I ask because I currently am writing to a few penpals as I get ready to move over in hopfully 6 months. (I hope I hope).  Why? Cause I've never been. :)

Well that, and I like the accent. ;)

Okay, back to work for me.

Yeah, the foot healed fine. They say that breaks like mine end up healing stronger than they were in the first place. It was such a fun Christmas party - and to be honest I was so out of it that I didn't go to the hospital until I'd slept off my hangover (which was worse than the pain in my foot to be honest.) I just hopped everywhere. Thank goodness my car was an automatic - it was my left foot and I wouldn't have been able to get home the next morning!

Vaguely embarassing, but a good story nonetheless.  ;)

And Davidb, I met my fiance on kiss.com - when he was in the UK and I was in the US. Neither of us were really serious about the site, but he happened on my profile (posted half in jest, half in curiosity) and the rest is, as they say, history....

 :)  Hi

I recently got married to a  Brit and am  now living near Birmingham.  I had problems  coming in with my visa  so needless to say  I didn't start out being too warm to being here.  It has  been a transition but I am very glad to have found this website.  I  lived in CA  for most of my life and the last 5 years in Arizona. It has been a big adjustment weather  wise. that is for sure.  Anyway..   like it was mentioned  before..  there are  things I miss about America and things I don't.  I guess the main thing is my family and friends and my identity.. I am basically still invisible here.. Glad  to know there  are Expats  around though..  Glad  to  be here

Hello Azroomie,

What were the visa problems? Just curious...

Where in AZ are you from?

I'm here in the South East, Kent, and have only met 1 American (he was working at the nearby Co-Op and I 've never seen him since).

How did you meet your Brit hubby?

What part of Cali did you live in?

Welcome to UK Yankee. The girls outnumber the blokes a 1000 to 1... :o

Hi mr. Toke..

I met my husband on a Catholic website  about  a year and a half ago.

I lived in Scottsdale for most of my time there  but towards the  end before moving here I was in Chandler.
I am originally from Southern CA.  I grew up in the  Eagle Roc/ Los Angeles  area  but my parents now live in La Crescenta..

After we got married we went to Hawaii  for  our honeymoon and  stayed in CA an extra week  with my family.  During this time w e hoped our marriage license would  post and we could get  my visa sorted..but it hadn't..   I had  already booked a return ticket  for Christams  so I wanted  to stay in the UK  for that amount of time.  Our marriage license had not posted  so we figured  I could stay there  for those 5 months a s a tourist.  I had no intentions of working or living off the gov't.  Ideally i was visiting  my  'fiance'   :-X  for a bit..well i got found out at the  immigartion counter  bit I think it was personal  to be honest because she didn't like my attitude..  who knows??  anyway.. i knew I could stay as a visitor  for 6 months. It said so on my passport and  I already had return tickets  booked  but she  didn't verify  my story  or anything.  she  didn't believe i had  tickets  etc.  so i was  sent back the next morning.  My husband and I did manage to see each other  breifly that night before  i was deported but after a  lot of  pulling strings and  all that..his dad is a  lawyer here  so that w a s helpful in getting to the  police station and  bending rules so to speak..  The ironic part wa s  that she sent me back  on the ticket she said I didn't have!!  so I stayed in CA  an extra month while my husband was  here.. w e  waited for our marriage license  to  post.. see, that w a s the other thing  ..she kept saying i w a s married  but I told her I had  no proof of that.. that w a s the big problem.. if i had a  marriage license I could have gotten a visa..  so I went as a  tourist..since i knew i wa s definately going back  for  Christmas..  ..but   she wasn't buying it..  I had  visited  england before as a tourist  and not needed  a visa  because i had my return ticket but this time  the lady was  not hearing it I guess..
phew!!   so here I am  ..  actually i  would be happy to  just make freinds in genereal  not necessarily  American  although that would be nice.. it  just seems  difficult here.. at least i know my neighbors i guess..   :D  and the butcher..

thanks  for  responding!!

Last year was the first time in Arizona,we normally go to Vegas, but we did enjoy it. Having friends we met on the net to show us around was a big help. That was in March then our friends came over to Brum in September and stayed with us.

It's sometimes interesting with the Americans you meet in the UK.  I was putting in a call to technical support at the company I work for and the guy who answered was American.  He asked where I was from and it turns out he lived 10 minutes down the road from me in Baltimore county.  He works in an office in another town but lives only 25-30 minutes from my house here in England!  Unfortunately, I've misplaced the phone number he gave me.
