i am so sad.. i am sorting through books!

i figure my fellow book readers can related.. i love love love books and have a massive collection... i am taking a break right now from sorting through them i decided to basically get rid of EVERYTHING... i am either seeing if amazon will trade in ( i figure the gift card they give may come in handy when i move overseas) or i will donate what they do not take... this is a sad moment for me... sighs... maybe i will keep one or two...for the memories lol

I can relate. How awful! I brought over about 700 books with me and, since moving here in 2003, I now own about 1400. So, yeah, it doesn't take long to double a collection. Maybe you'll be able to start a new one once you're here.

I can totally relate! I left a couple hundred behind, but I still brought over 1000 with me. I'm rather, uh, well known w/ my friends for bringing 32 boxes over....28 of which were books.
I probably have nearly 1600 now. Don't worry, you'll find a way to get more!

I've been doing the same thing, although I perhaps don't have quite as many as you guys.  I took a bunch to the used bookstore this morning, but they only wanted a few of them.  I asked my boyfriend if I could sell some of his college textbooks (which he doesn't need and hasn't looked at in about 5 years), and I was surprised that he was quite attached to them.  I think we'll end up taking about 1-2 boxes of books.

I needed my mom to force me to get rid of my books, and be very firm with my keep allowance.

I donated mine to a library, so I know (hope!) they'll be in a good place now for others who want to read them.

I feel your pain! I still have a library of books left at my parents' house that I couldn't afford to ship over. I just didn't have the heart to get rid of all of them, although I did donate lots to the library. Although now where I work I can get books for free every day, so my collection is growing faster than ever...

i do have an e-reader but i haven't brought the e verision of a lot of my books. during this process i decided i might allow myself one small box of books to keep. lol i dont want to take a whole bunch though...

maybe i will limit myself to 10... that sounds like a good number.... but how do you go from hundreds to 10? lol

I also can completely relate. I've moved a twice over the past 10 years across country and each time, my book collection becomes smaller and smaller. If I move to England, what will I do without them? I have a small collection of rare religious books (I am a collector) that will surely come over and maybe some favorites. The e-book reader just is not the same as turning the pages and getting lost.
