DH doesnt get it, he thinks this is just a choice and in a way he is right as I am choosing to quit but it isnt instant. I said you give up drinking for a full month in social settings and all and see how well that goes. He said that is different (eyeroll).
So I am very pissy with the lack of support? is that the right word? He says I know you can do it but you dont need anything to help and dont cut back just do it. FFS I planned on Oct 1st and I havent smoked since Saturday night at 2am, so I am going in the right direction.
(sorry for the mini rant)
Choosing to quit IS a choice, but it isn't an easy one to make, and I have heard that nicotine is harder to give up than some hard drugs. Funny how someone with an addiction to a hard drug gets support from everyone and is comforted and cheered on. A smoker who quits just gets an 'it's about time' speech and treated like a whiny baby for saying it is hard. I had several people tell me it was nothing to quit and I should just stop acting like it was a struggle. They were all non smokers who had no clue what it was like. It is far more than just giving up something. If you gave up pretzels (oh the horror! Something I could never do...) you stop eating pretzels. Your body doesn't go into shock from lack of pretzels.
You are definitely going in the right direction. Even if you never use the e-cig, the comfort of it being there 'just in case' is a good thing. I had one cigarette hidden at work, in my office, for when I desperately needed one. Every time I DESPERATELY needed it, I told myself I wasn't quite to the true desperation point
yet, and after a few months I threw it away. I could have thrown it away long before but didn't want to jinx myself. If you do need the e-cig from time to time, don't feel weak for using it. I've known people who quit by having a few puffs a day on the e-cig and weaning down to quitting. It is different for each person and you will find what works for you.
Feel free to rant away on here. We're all here for you.
