I HATE doing dishes. But even moreso that washing them, I hate racking them up to dry and even worse, I loathe  putting them away.  Getting everything into the cupboards, pans stacked, glasses, ugggggggh. I just dread it.

I don't mind stacking them. I am the queen of stacking, and will adjust and restack until everything fits, just to save from drying, which I hate with a passion. I'd rather spend an extra 10 minutes on the job adusting things so they stack higher than dry a few things. I don't mind putting them away, other than the pots and pans. That seems to be a nightmare for me. I just want to shove the clean ones in instead of taking everything out and stacking it neatly.

I thought I would hate it, but now that I am here I actually don't mind it. The place we are staying has a pretty window overlooking the green garden. I think waht keeps me sane is that I space out the dishes - I'll do the breakfast ones while lunch is cooking, and lunch ones before dinner. DH usually does dinner ones as a thank you. I really thought I'd hate this housewife malarky but I am feeling at peace with it.

What I do hate is the washing up bucket in the sink. DH loves it and I think it's awful and unsanitary, just sitting there in the sink with dirty water in it. I refuse to use that thing.

Sadly our flat we are moving in to in a couple weeks also does not have a DW, but at least it has a window.

I'm not a fan of the washing up bucket/pan thing either. I'm not going to say it can't be bleached or sanitized, but it just isn't for me. I think for me it is losing 'space' where I can be washing dishes. Our kitchen sink is small enough as it is. I wash as I cook, and any from eating or last minute pans that are emptied as I'm serving the food get washed next time. Once we are finished eating I will soak pans so they are easier to clean.

I know I am going to miss the canal when we move. I love watching the ducks, geese, swans and barges as I am washing dishes. I suppose I will have to blow up some photos I have taken of it and hang them on the backsplash of my next kitchen sink.  ;D

I don't often get the chance to do the dishes but I quite enjoy doing them now we've remodeled the kitchen and have a double sink (the domsjo from IKEA, sort of belfast-esque) and a mixer tap  ;D

I tap or scrape the bits off the plates and turn on Absolute 80s and away I go  8)

My kingdom for a double sink.

I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC

Mine too. I remember the 'good ol days' when I had one. This summer (and last) when we were at mom's visiting, I was nearly giddy with glee over two sinks.  ;D

Another thing I do to amuse myself is make up stories about people I see walking along the canal - like Ed's stories about the other people in the Winchester in 'Shaun of the Dead'. I'm guessing somewhere in my hundreds of viewings of the movie I got the idea to do it.

My DH says he has a dishwasher (me) and I have a dish dryer (him).  I don't really mind washing dishes....we don't have that many as it is just the 2 of us.  I had a dishwasher in my house in the US but then I had a houseful of people including 2 of my grandchildren.  The only time I really dislike dishes is when I get in one of those "baking" moods and I dirty a lot of dishes......but I do have a wonderful view out my kitchen window of trees and a green meadow full of horses......and of course I always have so much "help" to do the dishes with Willow and Whisper my 2 kitties.......

Our dishwasher has been broken for about a month now and we've been washing dishes by hand  :( We're currently waiting for some part to be ordered in from Germany.  My DH does the lion's share of the washing up while I dry and put away. We don't have a drying rack or space to put one - and I think my husband would refuse to let things air dry even if we did! - so things have to be dried and put away as they're being washed.

My UKC husband doesn't rinse the suds off.  Is this a common UK thing?  I haven't complained because I don't want to wash the dishes (and I thought it would just be for a quick week until the dishwasher was fixed).  I haven't noticed anything tasting "soapy" and believe me, I'm alert to the possibility.

Its very common. My partner, hes a UKC, but rinses because he can taste the soap on the glasses. He cant understand why people put up with soap residue either.

This is where I find a washing up bowl useful, mainly when I dont have access to a half a sink to run water through. I plug up the sink with CLEAN soapy water, place a bunch of dishes in and wash. Then put the soapy dishes in the bowl. Drain water and then rinse off the soap. Still saves on water...

I thought it was just my husband, as well.

What I do hate is the washing up bucket in the sink.

Agreed....
Am in the middle of reorganizing the kitchen and will definitely hide it well this time.
He always manages to find it and put it back...   [smiley=dozey.gif]

Totally! Taking up precious sink space, that bucket thing. And since we are sharing with others, I feel like I am the only one who cleans/sanitizes the bucket.

I am pretty sure in my former screen name I went on and on about not rinsing. Funny... He did it again today! And then was surprised his water tasted soapy. Loathe.

I wash/rinse the exact same way.  My husband has pretty severe allergies, including psoriasis.  Rinsing is the best way to avoid any additional allergy problems.

I did drive me mental at one point, but I think it was just a part of the whole move and change and adjusting with it. Now I don't mind so much as I like to keep my hands busy sometimes.

There are days though that I wish I had a dishwasher...But then I would have to trade my washer/dryer combo for it as I can't fit both in my apartment...I can't live without a washer/dryer...I really would go mental than!  ;)
