Help uploading photo?
« on: October 18, 2011, 12:10:29 PM »
I've been trying since yesterday to upload a photo into one of my posts.

I uploaded the photo to photobucket, but realized I had marked my album "private". So today I changed it to "public", reposted the link, but when I click on it, it is says, "Page not found".

Any help/ideas would be much appreciated. I've already wasted too much time on this.  :-[

I don't think you need to make the account public in order to post a photo - I've posted photos from my private Photobucket account before and they show up on websites, in posts and in links with no problem, but no one can see my account or other photos - I just post a link to the actual picture itself, not my photobucket album.

If you want to post a photo here in a post, then you need to use the IMG tags (image button) - so to post a photo of a chocolate cake, you put the URL in between the IMG tags like this (but take out the *s from the tags - I've just put them in so the code would show up and not the picture):

[img*]http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/3092/images/3092_MEDIUM.jpg[*/img]

and taking out the *s from the img code, you get:

or alternatively, if you want to link to the picture itself, just type the URL of the picture: http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/3092/images/3092_MEDIUM.jpg

Imbedding the photo resulted in the same thing it did yesterday (just left an 'x' where the photo should be.

I reposted the link directly to the photo. I then exited, opened the thread again, and I was able to see it. But can anyone else? :)

Ahh, okay, I see what's going on.

The link you've posted above is to a page in your photo album with the photo in it, not to the actual photo itself - so when you put it in the IMG tags, it doesn't post anything because it's a webpage and not an image.

On that page (http://s1099.photobucket.com/albums/g383/Fallgal/?action=view&current=Nick_and_Autumn-1.jpg), you should see a little box at the side called 'Links' and it has 4 boxes: Email & IM, Direct Link, HTML Code and IMG code. If you click on one of these boxes, it will copy the code and then you can paste that code in your post.

So, if I go to your photo page and click on the Direct Link box and paste it here, it links to just the photo, not your Photobucket page:

http://i1099.photobucket.com/albums/g383/Fallgal/Nick_and_Autumn-1.jpg

and if I click on the IMG Code box and paste it here, it shows the picture (or you can put the direct link in the IMG tags yourself):

Edited to add: x-posted with Tremula

Thanks for everyone's nice comments as well. :)

Hey, I did it!  I'll put it in the Hitching Post forum now. Thanks again!

Heh - I have made that cake recipe before!!  (for a York friend's birthday, I think it was)  :)
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in...
