Driving instructor in south Manchester?
« on: October 19, 2011, 09:25:34 PM »
Does anyone in Manchester know of or can recommend a driving instructor - preferably one who has taught experienced drivers to drive on the wrong side of everything? My previous instructor tried very hard not to treat me like I was 17, but he fell into his habits and kept asking me such basic questions as I was trying to drive that I wondered if he was trying to catch me out with trick questions and it was quite distracting.

I need to get my licence sorted ASAP, my job is only 15 minutes drive from home - but an hour bus journey. And lately the buses haven't been showing up, and it is taking me two hours to get home!

Thanks!  ;D

The wife and I are looking for the same thing. I've been driving since May (Plus the 20 odd years in the US before that) and would like to run through a couple lessons just to make sure I'm ready for the test. After a few weeks I was completely comfortable with driving, roundabouts, etc. We're on the east side of Manchester, let me know if you find anyone, I'll do the same

I'm in the city centre, and, when I got my license (two years ago now), I used the BSM. They're a huge school, which meant I could swap around between instructors if I didn't like one (I didn't end up doing that), and it meant that I could have the lessons whenever was most convenient for me.

For what it's worth, I took about ten lessons, drove twice on my own, and passed the test first try. I wouldn't have taken so many lessons if I had a car I could practice on, but we were in between cars for some of the time.

I just got home from a two hour lesson with a new instructor (that my old one put me in touch with). He was outstanding, I felt very comfortable by the time we were done, much more so than I've felt in the other two hours of driving that I've had. I'll PM you with his name and number.

Just wanted to give an update after my second 2 hour lesson with my new instructor. This man gets it - he's made the switch from left to right and right to left, he understands why I do some of the things I do. But most importantly, he helps me get my head around what seems strange and gets me to focus on what needs to be done.

Anyone in Manchester, I'd strongly recommend this guy. PM me for his contact info.
