Finally arrived in Scotland!
« on: October 19, 2011, 10:35:34 PM »
If you haven't seen my posts in the Visa forum, I thought I'd introduce myself. My husband (the UKC) and I decided to return to Scotland after having lived in the US the last 7+ years. I'm from Louisville, KY and we lived in that area mostly. Also spent some time in the Cincinnati area. We're in our early to mid-30s with no kids (as yet). I've spent time in Glasgow back in 2002 when I studied here for a term (when I met my hubby), so I'm a little familiar with the area already. We're actually living in Hamilton but we could make it into the city if anyone would like to meet up sometime.

We've talked about the possibility of moving back for years, and it's hard to believe we've actually done it and we're here!  ;D Now I just need to find a job!

Welcome to this side of the pond!  ;D Funny how the years of talk about making the move suddenly turns into 'holy cow, we've done it!'. We talked about it off and on during hubby's nearly 5 years in the States, and one day made the decision it was time to do it.

I know. It'd hard to believe we're really here. I just said to my husband today "It still feels like a vacation. When does that feeling stop?". :P

it stops feeling like vacation once you start working a regular job and living 'regular' life----i have felt for years that i need to get out of stourbridge/dudley  to feel like i am in England again   :)
so at weekeds we always leave our area to visit little villages or even have a weekend in london.    seeing new things keeps those new experiences happening and keeps the magic feeling of living here alive for me...  wow, i AM really living here!!   (leaving by train helps too......)  :)

I've been here three years and I still dream about hitting deadlines in my old job. I guess because I haven't gotten a new job.

I'd say welcome, but it seems like I've seen you around the forums forever  :)

Just saw this--glad you made it ok and you didn't get turned away at the border due to "changed circumstances."  ;D

They will alternate between the slowest and fastest 14 days of your life! ;D Waiting will make it feel like forever, but as you are visiting people one last time and doing all the last minute things you will wonder where the time is going and if you will have enough time to get it all done. Enjoy them though, because you will look back on that time with fond memories.

Not me. I look back on those last two weeks as mostly a blank, punctuated by moments of sheer terror. And weirdness.

I had a few of those moments too, but overall, I was so busy I didn't give myself time to think. Knowing how I get with worry, I left a lot til last minute so my time would be filled with thoughts of getting it all done just to keep the panic at bay.
