Why is every bathrobe in England...
« on: November 02, 2011, 08:11:46 PM »
Made of that awful fuzzy super-soft fabric? UGH I hate how it feels and it's even worse if you're still wet! Plus it ends up getting very dingy, in my opinion. I've looked all over from Primark to New Look to M&S to TK Maxx, but I can't find a terrycloth (or any other fabric for that matter) bathrobe anywhere! Does anyone actually like this stuff?

I think it's a good thing that this is the biggest thing about life here I have to complain about so far :D

IKEA!!! I got mine from there. It's not the most luxurious bathrobe ever, but it's a lot like hotel bathrobes!  :)

Our bathrobes are M&S and they are a thick terry cloth.

Have you tried looking at the online selection?

February 2010 - Tier 1 - PSW
January 2012 - FLR(M)
June 2014 - ILR (finally!)

I think terrycloth is called "towelling" here.

I wouldn't say the fuzzy dressing gowns are for post-bathing, but for cozy sitting around in.
Arrived as student 9/2003; Renewed student visa 9/2006; Applied for HSMP approval 1/2008; HSMP approved 3/2008; Tier 1 General FLR received 4/2008; FLR(M) Unmarried partner approved (in-person) 27/8/2009; ILR granted at in-person PEO appointment 1/8/2011; Applied for citizenship at Edinburgh NCS 31/10/2011; Citizenship approval received 4/2/2012

I'd agree with that. I have toweling ones, but they're not as cosy as the fuzzy ones. Although, I'm wearing a cotton one at the moment.

Oh thank you for the towelling tip. Will try to see if I can find anything close to Christmas. I don't like shopping online for that kind of stuff (I like to feel it!) but may do if things get desperate :)

Land's End has a UK website now.  It's a little pricey, but their bathrobes are wonderful, thick terrycloth, and they hold up really well.

I just bought one. It's AMAZING. Thick and obviously high quality.

I use the mens version of terrycloth but DH and kids all have dressing gowns to sit around in and they are furry things (yuck).

No one here actually uses them after the shower except me on cold mornings.

I have an L.L. Bean one in fleece (not the super fuzzy stuff) that zips up the front. I don't like the wrap-around belt jobs.

Mum bought me a nice huge thick one from M&S a couple of years back because I was lamenting the lack of real bathrobes here in the USA lol, all I could find were fleecy fuzzy dressing gowns :) I think they are just going out of style period. I've still never seen a good one here in the US but I do live in a small town.

I think it might be a guys one cause I prefer the plain dark coloured ones.
