anyone moved back to US and left stepkids/kids in UK?
« on: November 13, 2011, 10:00:56 PM »
My UKC and myself are moving back to the US next year.  We have joint custody of his kids - every other weekend and half of school holidays.  While the kids seem to be okay with it, I am feeling the guilt.  It's because of my career that we are moving. We are planning on having my husband coming back very frequently as we will be able to afford it.  The kids are excited about school holidays in the states.

Just wondering if anyone else has been through a situation like this and any tips on making it work best for the kids, the parents and myself, the stepmum.

Thanks :)

Is husband 100% supportive?
I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC

He is thankfully and very supportive and optimistic about the whole thing.

You may want to get a new custody agreement in writing. My Dh's sister has to deal with this, and sends her daughter to her father three times a year during the school holidays, with two of the trips to his home country and one in Europe. The agreement keeps arguments about the whole thing to a minimum. She's 7 and so far it's worked out well.
