Moving back to the USA from the UK
« on: November 22, 2011, 03:50:05 PM »
Dear all-
I just recently moved back to the USA from the UK after living there for 7 years.  The movers we decided to use have completely messed up and our stuff is still not here after 3 months.
They say they are the  expert in international moving.  They are not.  They did not provide me with the appropriate paperwork, customs forms & power of attorney for my household items to be shipped from the UK to the USA.  Nor did they make me aware of the fact that I needed to file all of these with them.  I asked on numerous occasions and was told they only needed copies of my passport (USA) and my husband's (UK).  Well, I waited the six weeks and contacted the agents in the USA, they had no record of my shipment as it had not left the UK.  I called Doree Bonner and was told that it had not left due to my inadequate paperwork. Please note, that no one at Doree Bonner contacted me to let me know that I was missing these very crucial documents.  The e-mail I received back was - oops it was an over sight.  Meanwhile, we needed our things.  My husband's work kit was needed and it cost us $700 USD to get a new one. I was told to fill out the paperwork and get it back to Doree Bonner in the UK - and obviously I had to pay for the overnight shipping, $55USD.  I waited to hear.
After hearing our stuff was set to dock in the USA on Dec 2 2011, I received an e-mail from the USA agent that our customs forms needed to be filled out by my husband, not me.
I told Doree Bonner (on more than one occasion) I wanted this entire move to be in my name as I was the American and my husband would be off-shore working as soon as we got to the states.
They made another 'oversight' and put the original shipping manifest in his name, but told me I had to fill out the paperwork to everything on the ship from the UK.  The shipping manifest is now in my husband's name and the customs paperwork is in my name, thus our stuff is now in hold in USA Customs as the paperwork has to match. Pretty obvious to me, but once again - they just sort of shrugged their shoulders and said there was not much they could do.
It took many e-mails to get them to admit their errors, but not once have they offered to compensate me back for the expense(+$700)and the inconvenience this has cost our family.
They are not experts, in any way.  Do not use this company for any international move you might have.
I only post this so that this will not happen to any one else.  The Doree Bonner outlet we used was based in Wiltshire.
Kind regards

Sorry you've had such a rough time of it Kat. Another place you might put your review is on the forums at movingscam.com.

I will do so now!!!  I just hope that the word gets out to those who are moving.  It is such a horrible time and to have the company you paid loads of money make such horrific errors beggars belief!
