Hello from Glasgow, Scotland via Buffalo, New York
« on: November 25, 2011, 05:34:58 PM »
Hi Everyone,

New to this site. I guess I'm almost 4 years late in joining (found out about this through Visa Journey). I moved to Glasgow from Buffalo, NY back in 2008, but alas, my (UKC) husband and I are moving back the the US in February. Still thought my experience might be helpful to some other (now or soon to be) UK-Yanks :)
Veni, vidi, vici.

Welcome to the forum! Good luck with your move back to the US.  I will be moving to the UK sometime in the summer of 2012.  Any info you provide will be helpful.

Do you mind sharing your reasons for leaving?

Thanks :) Good luck with your move as well :)

We are moving back to the US because it was something we had planned on doing right from the get-go. My (now) husband had gone back to Uni so it just made sense for me to move here for the time being. We both feel the US is a better fit for us-- it's truly 'home'.

Glasgow is not really home to me and that feeling has solidified throughout the years. Please don't miss understand me-- I have made great friends and I have never been treated disrespectfully (you expect gentle jabs though since you're a Yank). I have very limited experience with England (aka "down south"). The two countries are very different from what I've seen and form what others have admitted. Not sure where abouts you're moving?

You are going to be moving to a country with a rich history, gorgeous scenery and Jaffa Cakes!! You really should look forward to it and be excited :) :)

I have a deep respect for and a tourists love of the UK. They are our closest allies after all!

Hi Mrs H,

Thanks for the response.  I will be moving to London, or somewhere outside of London.  I am English but left when I was a child, so more familiar with the US ways and customs than the UK.

I was just curious as to your reason.  I am always curious about why one moves to a different country and/or returns home.  I completely understand and wish you the best on your return :)

Haha, MrsH. My fiance is from Glasgow and LOVES jaffa cakes. He doesn't understand why I don't! :P Luckily he and my mom can share them, since she loves them.

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your move back home.:)

I thought Jaffa Cakes were gross at first and now I'm mental about them! They have yard-long boxes of them right now at Tesco for like £3.00 :) :)

Is your fiance in the US with you or are you moving here? :) Thanks for the well wishes for moving, I'll need it! Everything seems a bit over whelming just now...

He is in the UK while I'm here in the US till next summer (when we get married). I'll be moving next Sep. or so. I am 9 months out and it's already overwhelming to me, too! But in the end, you can only prepare as well as you can, and things will happen as they do. The most important thing is being together. ;)

Hi MrsH and welcome to the forum.

I'm like Brigette in that I like to know why people do what they do.

I hope your move back to the US goes smoothly.

 :)
9/11/2012 Husband mailed his US citizenship application.
9/17/2012 Received e-mail stating his application has been entered into the system.
9/22/2012 Hubby received letter with date for finger printing.
10/12/12 Hubby went for finger printing.
10/26/12 Dh got a letter stating when he should appear for his interview and test- 11/27/12- just a month away!!!
11/27/12 We went to dh's interview and test- he passed and we went back 4 hours later for the Oath Ceremony! 95 people from 38 countries, really pretty cool!
So he's now a US citizen!!
