"The Move"
« on: November 26, 2011, 03:31:29 PM »
We are now at the stage where we have the plane tickets booked and we are starting to tie everything in the UK up for the move back to the US.

We have a list of things we need to get done before we go (ie. HM Revenue & Customs, bills, ect) For those in the US: What are some of the things you came up against that maybe in hind sight you wish you would have considered sooner?

What are/were the essentials on your check list to get done before you make/made the move?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated  :)

We moved to the US from Ireland in June. I can't think of anything and even asked my husband if he could think of anything! We cancelled all our bills, squared away the shipping, booked the cat and ourselves, and we were off! We would have liked to travel more before we left, but money was an issue at that point.

Good luck with the move. Are you heading back to Buffalo?

Yeah, we would have really liked to travel a bit more too. But it's been a busy, costly past few years.. I don't think our feet are going to touch the ground for another 3-4 years!

Yep, we're going back to Buffalo for the time being. Probably stay there until I finish school and my husband naturalizes (I've heard Buffalo's a pretty low volume USCIS office). Then I think we'll get out of the area, but stay near the East Coast.

How are you finding living back in the US?

So far, so good! He really likes Baltimore and the transition hasn't been too difficult. The biggest downfall is that my husband hasn't been able to find a job. Fortunately, I was much luckier, so we're able to pay the bills and have health insurance. We were lucky that we only had to live with my parents for a little over a week. I have friends who also moved back around the same time as us and they're still living with her parents. I know that's stressful for everyone involved.
