Fridge broken, or just dead lightbulb?
« on: November 30, 2011, 01:01:34 PM »
My fridge was working fine all morning, but I just went in to get dinner prepped and when I opened the door the light was out.... I can't tell if it's working or not, it's pretty quiet. Anyone know a way to check if it's working?  :-\\\\

Probably the best way is to change the bulb. If it still doesn't come on then it's the fridge!

Have you not heard the fridge cut on at all?

I haven't heard it at all. If I put my ear to it it's humming? I only just tried that, so hopefully that means it's the bulb.

I would have done that tonight, once DH has a look and we go get a bulb, just trying to figure out if it's working now to set my mind at ease!

I had this happen to me once before and I set the temp as far down as it would go to see if it would cut on and it did. Maybe you could try that? I'm sorry I cannot be of more help to you! If it isn't working you certainly do want to keep the doors shut as long as possible though. Best of luck.

Yeah, to be safe I would try to leave it closed as much as possible, and MikeyMike's suggestion of lowering the temperature to see if it goes on is good. If you can hear humming that's usually a good sign.

Thanks you two. It stopped humming a couple hours ago. Turned it down and checked again just now and it's humming again, so clearly it must be working. :) Getting a new bulb tonight and feeling really relieved.

:)

It's so quiet that you have to hold your ear up to it, so it was really hard to tell!
