Comfort for Pregnant Ladies
« on: September 14, 2004, 07:59:29 PM »
I thought I would start a little discussion about comfort.  Since being pregnant is so miserably uncomfortable, I thought maybe all we Mommies and Mommies-to-be could start sharing our favorite tips and tricks for making our pregnant selves a little more comfortable, even if it's only temporary.

My favorite thing is having my hubby squeeze my hips together.  Since my joints are so loose and achy all the time, sometime he will grab me by the hips, one hand on the outside of each, and squeeze together.  The pressure feels so good-I've actually been tempted to wedge myself between the couch and the wall just for the relief of not having everything so loose!

Who's next?  ;D

I liked to get on the floor on my hands and knees. Spread my knees and do, what I think?, is the dog pose in yoga. Basically, your forehead on the floor and your butt WAY up in the air. That felt good for my ever-aching pelvis and hips.
I'm done moving. Unrepatriated back to the UK, here for good!

Body pillow, need I say more.  It's great between the knees.  That way my hips weren't as stiff for those 4 or 5 night time bathroom runs.
Dream a dream of England .......... Some day

Just wanted to mention a few things even though Im not pregnant anymore. My youngest son is 14 weeks old. How time flies!
I was HUGE!! Im not sure how much weight I gained but I outgrew my maternity clothes in my 7th month. My son was 2oz shy of 11lbs at birth.
My last three weeks I suffered terribly from pelivs separation. I couldnt walk at all. I spoke to my midwife and she sent me to a physical therapist. I was fitted with a maternity belt. It made a world of difference! Its not possible to sit or drive in these things but to walk around or for housework it really helped 100%. So if you are feeling burning and pain in your pelvis while walking please ask for a maternity belt. I should have been fitted for one probably around 6 months.
Of course also sleep with a zillion pillows :)
Good luck everyone!

well body pillow was one I WAS gonna say TOO !!!
can think of three things off hand even though its been YEARS since I had a baby... though I am contemplating going for it again with the new hubby!!!  ;D
maternity dresses with pockets that you can just slide your hands into on either side... when my tummy used to get BIG I never could figure out what to do with my hands ...you cant always rest em on top so those pockets came in handy and were quite comfy (any other moms feel same way) and dont worry about how you look in your clothes ok... we all want to look stylish and fashionable but if that long house coat with pink purple and orange polka dots feels comfy... wear that sucker out and last... i had awful heartburn when i was pregnant and was told warm milk helped... which it did but ... warm milk tastes yucky...  hot chocolate works even better but if your paranoid about your caffiene/ chocolate consumption a lil sugar and vanilla extract will make it more palatable

Hope these are helpful ... Jo
It's the difference between knowing the path and walking the path.

Lipstick? Where woman? There is no lipstick!
She wasn't kissing your lips my darling

What's it gonna be Merv?
Interesting deal
She'll do it. If she has to kill everyone in this room. She'll do it. She's in love.
*sigh*
It's amazing how the path of love is so alike to the path of insanity

2gether 4ever Jo & Jimmy
