Er, yes they will. My test centre was opposite a public car park and I did the bay parking first thing in my test.

That's interesting! I was told my the instructor that they were off limits.  They don't do them at all in the town I took mine in for that reason.  Maybe it's more of a regional thing.  There are certainly shopping centres around town that they could have safely done that portion in.

It was a council-run car park rather than a shopping centre, don't know if that made a difference.

Mine was nice and chatty too! I think that makes all the difference - it really put me at ease.

It does make all the difference! I mean, I was literally sick to my stomach about taking the stupid test! Here I'm thinking "I've been driving all over the U.S. for years and most jobs I've had in the last few years have required me to literally work and live out of my car...So watch me fail this stupid test! HOW would I explain that anyone!? It would be soo embarrassing!" But I did find out a few of the other driving examiners are right jerks like what Evilshell was saying! Made me so glad that I had who I did! She was fantastic!

That may have been the difference--that and it being right by the examiners building.  There was only on-road parking near mine.
