Sweet! Thanks so much @kbee!
There are two kinds of people.  People who say what they want, and people who DO what they want. Which one will you be?

I agree that homemade are better than most of what you get in diners... I do miss Pamela's pancakes, a Pittsburgh tradition, can't be recreated at home...

Just FYI, Costco sells the fake pancake syrup!

The secret to the BEST American Pancakes is simple.  Just separate the egg whites and add the yolks to the mix.  Then beat the whites till they are making small peaks, but not stiff.  Once you have your mix ready at the last minute FOLD the egg whites into your mix.  Cook as usual.  They will be so fluffy you will shock your English friends!

People beg me to make these for them and it is that simple.  You can do it with most recipes.  I follow my grandma's basic recipe.  Don't forget to dust with powdered sugar! Message me if you want the recipe but most of these look great too.

I'm honestly a little surprised at the number of people who prefer pancake syrup. Bleh, it's high fructose corn syrup grossness if you ask me. I definitely always splurge on real maple syrup. I grew up with the fake stuff, too, with the real syrup a "special treat" but always preferred it.

More of a waffle girl, myself, I like the crunchiness of a nicely well-done waffle. :)

Oh - Pancake Day is coming soon (Feb 21st)!!

If you 'do' Pancake Day - do you make American pancakes, British pancakes (aka crêpes), or both?

 :)

(We usually just have the crêpes as a dessert thing on Pancake Day, because DH doesn't like American style pancakes -- but he makes the crêpes, so it's ok! He likes his with traditional lemon juice & sugar or sometimes he makes a fancy-schmancy berry compote for them -- sometimes with ice cream...I prefer mine with Nutella & LOTS of it!)
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in...

Proper Pancake Day pancakes, of course. You can have the other kind any day, but Pancake Day calls for the real thing. With lemon and sugar!

Costco sells big bags of pancake mix as well. It can be a lot for one person, but I buy the big bag and make smaller bags to give to my husbands kids (who ADORE pancakes and go through loads of them!) as well as other family members that like pancakes then freeze or store the rest however I feel fit. (It's the same brand they sell in the US and the Kirkland maple syrup is really good as well!)

Tesco has the super easy Betty Crocker shake-and-pour pancake mix in both the British crepe version and American style.

I find the real stuff too runny (i dont like having a messy plate) and not sweet enough (though the Lyles stuff is sugar and not High Fructose)

I got a waffle maker for Christmas and its awesome. OH is on a diet so one batch gives me waffles for three days.

We rarely participate in it, but if we do, he has British pancakes and I have American ones.

Jif, baking stuff not the cleaner, does something similar.. Gets about 8 US style pancakes (though should be about 16 silver dollar sized ones) out of one batter of mix.

Ditto! I am in the market for a waffle maker...

On pancake day last year we had English style ones because we ate at the in-laws'! This year (if they're not cooking) it will be American style all the way. :)

Its a Krups model. DP said he bought it off Amazon.. It wasnt the cheapest but not the most expensive either. Only downside is that it doesnt come with a UK plug, I need to use an adapter - but that was sent with it.
