On the hunt for gift boxes...
« on: December 12, 2011, 02:29:08 PM »
At home when I bought something from the department stores they would always give me a box to wrap it in--be it a shirt, jeans or whatever. I can't imagine just wrapping a shirt on its own--I like the presents I give to be pretty!! Does anyone know where I can get something like this?? I've searched craft shops and Clinton Cards and nobody knows what i'm talking about :(

I have lived here for two Christmases now and have NEVER seen these boxes anywhere. The only ones I've been able to find are decorative and fairly expensive (compared to the cheapy or even free ones I was used to in America) at card shops and Wilkinsons

I was so looking forward to someone having the answer on this - lol! I bought my husband a couple of shirts for work (just casual short sleeve shirts like he wears to work, nothing fancy) & was wondering - where oh where could I find shirt boxes to put them in for wrapping.

I rang my MIL this afternoon as well to ask her - she hadn't the foggiest idea either! She said this time of year - you can sometimes purchase pre-boxed shirts for men, like at a department store, but I think that's for more formal/dressy shirts.

I'm going to have a look at Wilco's & Smith's tomorrow, but I'm thinking I'll just have to improvise! :)

I wish these were readily available as well! M&S has them, but they're thicker cardboard, decorated and pricey. Still, I've bought them in the past. They're very nice. I just had a quick look on eBay and there are some plainish ones selling at £10 for 10 of them. That's about the cheapest I've seen, I'm afraid.

Oh this always drives me crazy that they're hard to find. I HATE wrapping presents, so I love gift boxes that are already fancy and I can tape shut and sometimes even throw a bow on. Minimal effort.

Also, about 10 years ago, Oriental Trading sold gift wrap that was basically a pre-packaged bag and you just had to open, shove the thing in and close shut (not like the ones with the handles, just like an already closed rectangle. They had them one season and never again. If anyone ever sees anything like this ever again, please let me know, I will love you forever!! [smiley=iloveyou.gif]

Argh i may just go to the post office and get those boxes! Every box company online wants to charge a ton for shipping and handling! I'm so disappointed so far I have been able to find pretty much everything I miss from home (or a good substitute) but this is so random! Next time I go home i'm going to bring back a bunch! And if I see any of those bags i'll let you know PB :) My mom used to use those to make sure us kids didn't peek before christmas!

Does W H Smith not sell them?? I seem to remember seeing them there years ago -- or am I hallucinating? We always recycle them from year to year.

BostonDiner, you're a genius! They're not huge (A4 size) and not cheap, but they're there!

Because I'm now obsessed with searching for these boxes, I've now found some cheaper ones here. And also some more here if you don't mind buying 50 at one go!

For the £2.69 WH Smith is charging for one ugly one, you can at least get the prettier ones from Wilkinsons! This is what we want - 5 for $2.00!

What a strange gap in the market.

Looks like boxes are available at several sources -- but rather pricey and probably fancier than what most of us would require. :(
