Changes to the theory test: the facts
« on: December 12, 2011, 02:37:13 PM »
They are changing the way the theory test is written.....also the "old" books are no longer valid as they printed new books back in September 2011......everything about this country now makes me feel so damn warm and fuzzy inside.....about ready to throw in the towel and go back to America!!!!!!!!

I'm very glad I'm not taking my test now! I certainly did memorise questions & answers when I was studying!

But, for the record, they've always reprinted the study guides every year and each year's edition is different - you can definitely pass with an out-of-date study guide, but the test might include things that weren't in your guide.

I, personally, would prefer to take a more meaningful test than answer questions by rote.  I learn in context, taking apart everything and knowing how it works. As an engineer, I struggle with rote, because the world is not rote and I am a problem solver by nature.  I struggled to memorise the stupid questions for the theory test, I can drive and I understand why and how when I'm driving ,but I just really couldn't get my head around answering a, b, c, d etc- I know next year when I take the Life in the UK test, I will also struggle with the rote memorisation.

I know its for horses for courses for though...

If you want a Study Budy, I'd be happy to help  :) It's years yet for me, but I'm going to need the info sooner or later, right?
