It depends on where you live, just like in the US.
My in-laws have no public transportation except for one bus a week that leaves on a Tuesday and returns the next day.
The village next to me used to have a bus every ten minutes, then every 35 and now none. Too bad if you moved there thinking you would have a bus.
But both these places have low density that mean bus routes aren't going to make money. Just like many places in the US.
