Hi from Shropshire
« on: January 07, 2012, 11:49:56 PM »
Hi, I'm from the Mojave desert in California. I moved to the UK a few years ago and haven't been able to go back even for a visit since I got here  :( The move to England was a last minute thing as my husband (he's from Devon) had a job offer 4 weeks before he was supposed to join me in California. I figured if I can't get home, maybe I can find some fellow Americans in England to chat to. I cannot say my English experience so far has been the best, it was a culture shock coming here as I was always an outgoing person back home.

About me, I live with my husband and 3 cats (no kids) in the rural countryside. I am a research scientist specializing in feline behaviour and I run a clinic where I help small animals (through a few charities) with severe behavioural problems. I like dancing, photography, swimming, puzzles and lately I've been spending alot of time on facebook.

I have been awfully home sick for the past year or so (I miss warm sunshine) and I cannot remember when I last encountered a fellow American (must be at least 5 years and in Sainsbury's I think). To cheer me up my parents mailed me twinkies, life savers and triscuits for Christmas (sometimes it's the little things you miss)  :)

Hi Maddy,
Welcome to UKY - glad you us! I live in Cheshire, so not too terribly far away from you. We occassionally have Northwest gatherings, it has been awhile in fact- so might be time for a new one! You are right, it is the little things that make the difference!

Welcome, Maddy.

I'm still in the US, but if my application for a Fiance visa is approved (fingers crossed), I'll be moving to Shropshire very shortly. So, never fear, a fellow American will hopefully be arriving shortly!

I am highly allergic to cats as well and used to be a dog lover, but once I started studying cats I fell in love with them. They are amazing creatures--very misunderstood. Yours are still babies and climbing walls is a requirement for them ;)  They'll calm down eventually--generally by the age of 2 when they have reached full maturity.

Hi,
I'm from Hawaii, so I know what you mean about missing the sun and all.  I live in Eaton on Tern about 16 miles from Shrewsbury.  I would love to meet up.  I am here until the end of May on my 2nd visit to my partners.  I am on FB a lot too.  How do we connect? Right now I usually go to the gym almost every day then read and puts around the house, so I'd enjoy having friends over and meeting up.
