Traveling to the UK from US
« on: January 16, 2012, 06:45:09 PM »
Hi everyone.
I am planning on taking a trip to the UK next month. I plan on buying a round-trip ticket & I will be staying for a week with my family.

I am worried about a few things and your advice would ease my mind greatly.

1. I went to the UK last year & stayed with my family for 5 months.

I have been living and working in the USA for the 8 months I've been back here.

Will the fact that I stayed for 5 months affect the IO's decision to let me into the UK? I will have the return ticket stating that I'm going back after a week...I am unsure if my previous stay matters at all.

2. I am not going to have a whole lot of money on me (probably around $300). I'm staying with my family, so they will be providing food, living space, etc. Will this effect my getting into the UK? (last time I visited, the IO didn't ask me about money, but I am still worried)

3. I currently get all of my bills online & I am living with my family in the USA (I don't pay rent). How can I show ties to the United States to the UK IO?

These are the things that are worrying me. We have been talking about and planning this trip for a while and I don't want anything to go wrong.

Please help! Thanks!

Are you a UKC returning to the UK or a USC returning to the UK?

I'm not sure about how your previous entry or your stay in the US will impact what the Immigration Officer does/ thinks but I can suggest that to prove you have a reason to return:

Bring a letter from your employer stating that you are currently employed with them and that you are on vacation for (insert time period) and that you are expected to return to work with them on (insert date). That, on business stationary will be helpful.

You might also print out one or two of your online bills although I don't think they'll be as good as the employer's letter.

Good luck!

Did you stay longer than you told the IO?
I'm paranoid, if that's the word, about being put on the next plane back to the US. Not for me but I know it happens.
