K1 application--photocopies of signatures unacceptable?
« on: January 21, 2012, 01:49:35 AM »
I just read this, "All Forms that you submit must be originals with original signatures" at the guide at http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1guide

Is this true?  If so, this is a huge bummer to me.  My fiancee lives in England.  I am working feverishly on the paperwork (that I wish we'd submitted long ago).  The plan was for her to e-mail me a scan of her signed statement of intent and G-325A, both of which I would then print.  Is this not going to work?  If so, she'll have to mail me the originals, which will add a few more days.  :(

I know a few days doesn't make a huge difference, but, well... it does.  But rules are rules.

Can I not send them the copies and then still have her mail me the originals to keep on hand?  Or will this just risk delaying it anyway?

Help!!  Thank you in advance.

We sent copies -- I specifically remember it -- but they were colour copies and may have somehow gotten around without being noticed.

Not to be a picker of nits, BUT...

Shouldn't this and all other current and future UK-->US topics be in the "Repatriation" section? It may be confusing to new members to see an increasing mash-up of UK-->US and US-->UK topics together.

Just a thought.

Probably, yes, but it's not really repatriation either. Consider the nits picked.  ;D

Sorry if I posted in the wrong spot!  I'm new and confused myself, not to mention entirely frazzled in my attempting to get our K1 submitted ASAP.  Sorry sorry!  Feel free to move it.  I wouldn't know where to put it or how to do so.

About the photocopy situation--
As long as she sends me really good scans, which I think she will do, I think I can print a good, color copy.  I just bought a new printer today to print the documents and stuff, and it's unexpectedly high-quality!

But if they discovered they were copies, and therefore not the original ink signatures but a copy of them, would they make me resubmit?  I'm Googling frantically.

According to what's on VisaJourney, yes, you would get a Request for Further Evidence and it would delay your petition. My experience was that ours got through, but I would definitely not recommend it.

Oh, okay.  So basically they'd just say, "This isn't original; we need the originals" and it would be a delay.  But there's a chance they might never care or notice.

Still, maybe safest to wait the extra few days and send originals.

:/

I've moved this topic for you. :)
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon
