A Re-Introduction
« on: September 18, 2004, 11:12:01 AM »
After 2 years of membership on this forum, perhaps it's time for an official re-introduction as I reckon there are many new folks who don't really know much about me.

As the profile says, I'm elle.  I'm married to Frank (aka Nefandous).  We've got another one of those Internet romance stories.  We met on an e-mail list in 2000, became friends, then more than friends, met face to face at London Heathrow in October 2001, couldn't bear the thought of being apart and married on New Year's Eve/Day 2001/2002.  Shortly thereafter I moved here to the UK and here I've been ever since.  There's more to it than that, obviously, but that's the nutshell version!

I've got 3 darlin' daughters - all 3 have remained in the US.  They're 17, 10 and 8.  Before I get asked - yes, I miss them, yes, I see them, yes, it does get tough to be away from them sometimes.  The oldest recently introduced herself here as mommiesgirl87.

I moderate the Chit Chat and Visas & Citizenship boards here on UKY.  I'm a legal secretary by day, and have recently become a part time college student at night studying law to be a legal executive.   I'm also big into Tori Amos, if one couldn't tell (I seem to be in a Pele mood lately).  I tend to quote her songs a lot in signatures.  She's not my only favourite but the one I tend to speak about the most.

Hello to all the new people here!  I hope you find many friends here on UKY.

Smooches and chocolate all around!  :-*

My DDGW is in law school too!  She's going after an advanced degree in Immigration Law, and is thinking about adding Housing Law on top of that - she doesn't trust estate agents (fancy that!).  For me?  I have a BSBA in Quantitative Methods, an MBA in Quantitative Analysis both from the USA (ECU & GW).  And from over here, a terminal degree in Stochastic Calculus from Heidelburg University with certificate in Probability Theory from Cambridge.  Plus the immigration law stuff which you already know about...

No dueling scar from Germany tho' - already ugly enough without one of those  ;D

Is your swimming badge from the scouts?

Was anybody here in the Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts?  Campfire Girls?  Den Mother?

Oh yes!

Brownies and Girl Scouts!!  Summer Camp every year... loved it.  Had a load of badges.
Loved everything about it; 'cept that my uniform was always a bit short :)

*sigh*  Those were the days...

Not only was I a Girl Scout as a child (Brownie through Cadets), but also was a Girl Scout Leader for my daughter's troop for 8 years (including 2 years as PR person for the Council)......

There's green blood flowing through these veins..LOL

The thing my father loved best about England - - - - not Buckingham Palace, not the Natural History Museum, not the countryside, not seeing his family - - - - it was getting a picture at the foot of the Baden Powell statue! :D

And hi elle! ;)
I'm done moving. Unrepatriated back to the UK, here for good!

LOL  Hi Sarah!  Thanks folks!  Re-introduce myself, get off on talking about scouts!  I did Brownies one year, but most of my experience was when my kids did Girl Scouts.  I co-led my oldest daughter's troop one year.  NEVER AGAIN.

Elle,

Your story isn't far off from mine. Andrew and I started emailing, then IM-ing (yes, both new verbs), then having multihour phone calls for three months (March until June 2000). Then it occurred to us that it might actually be cheaper to meet face to face than to continue chalking up hundreds of dollars in phone bills. I came here to meet him (word of advise--avoid Terminal 3 at Heathrow at all costs), and it was "to hell with the two-week return ticket." It used to be that people thought it abnormal to meet someone over the net. Not at all. How and what people write says all there is to know, almost. With us, it was almost a given that marriage was the next step--actually, even before I met him here face to face. So I stayed. I had an income from the States--I'd been ready to move into a new place there but had put my stuff in storage for what was supposed to be a couple of weeks, and there it remains. But for all of you new to these overseas relationships--don't be surprised if everyone you know in the States thinks you're a nut/will end up dead in a gutter for going to another country to meet someone you know only through email and phone calls. :)
