Vaccinations needed for US move
« on: January 29, 2012, 07:46:19 PM »
My husband's medical exam will be coming up soon.  As I have researched  online, I've found several different lists.  Anyone know which list to go by?  Just thinking he may need an up to date tetanus shot before the medical - to save money and have the GP do it.

Thanks :)

Always go to the official source of information. From the US Embassy in London:

Quote
Vaccinations: On the day of the medical examination, the physician will be required to verify that you have met the vaccination requirement, or that it is medically inappropriate for the you to receive one or more of the following vaccinations: Hepatitis A; Hepatitis B; Influenza, Influenza Type B (HIB); Meningococcal, Mumps; Measles; Pertussis; Pneumococcal; Polio, Rubella Tetanus and Diphtheria Toxoids; Varicella NOTE: The Varicella vaccination is not available in the United Kingdom.

In order to assist the health centre, and to avoid delays in the processing of an immigrant visa, you should have your vaccination records available for review at the time of the medical examination. You should consult with your regular health care provider to obtain a copy of your immunization record, if one is available. If you do not have a vaccination record, the panel physician will work with you to determine which vaccinations you may need to meet the requirement and can provide any that you are lacking on the day of your appointment. Please refer to the last page of this package for a chart showing the required vaccinations and age restrictions and a breakdown of costs for each one. If the vaccination record is not in english, please have the document translated and signed by a doctor.

We just went to my husbands GP and they reviewed his records with this information and updated all his shots accordingly. They then printed out an offical record for him that stated which vaccinations he had and when he had them. I think he had to have 3 to get him up to date & our GP charged £39 if I remember correctly.

Just make sure you double check with the doctor that everything is up to date, as my hubby got his records and showed them the vaccination list, they said all were fine, but he ended up having to get two boosters on the day because Knightsbridge said his MMR and tetanus were out of date! (he also had to get the flu shot at Knightsbridge because our GP had none available) ended up being 84 quid, ouch!
