Where can we see/read the speech if we are State side?

"People who will benefit Britain, not just those who will benefit by Britain."

Wonder how long it took them to come up with that misleading soundbite?  :P

Looks like the number is £26,000 for a family (of how many, who knows?), and £31,000 for a worker if they want to settle.

Interestingly I didn't see any mention of people already in the country on a spouse visa.

On another note, I can't believe the amount really. It rules out so many people who are earning enough to support a spouse but not by certain standards.....ah well :(
2nd April 2011 - married in MN, USA
7th April 2011 - Applied online for Spouse Visa
11th April 2011 - Spouse visa issued
12th May 2011 - Hubby home :)
22nd June 2013 - ILR :) :)

Terrible news for me, and, in my opinion, profoundly stupid. £26000 minimum for families...£26000 in London is not the same as £26000 elsewhere.

Really, really sad to hear this.

I don't think the Guardian story is based on a leak, it simply seems based on the proposals in the consultation report.

Given some of the quotes, I think it is more of a press release...

Mr Green’s speech points to 'double-plus selectivity'

Much of the detail is still obviously being worked over by the policy wonks in the UK Border Agency and it seems we will have to wait another month or so before we find out more on the income levels the government intends to fix to allow family members in the UK to be joined by partners and children residing abroad, or the rate for the chosen elite of skilled workers who will be allowed to proceed from temporary status to settlement and eventual British citizenship.

Thanks for this Caligirl!

So little information after so much drama?! It just seems like electioneering to me - they pop out DG every now and then to remind the good British people how much they should hate immigrants!  >:(

Hopefully we'll get some hard facts soon - clearly going to be bad news, but less uncertainty would be brilliant!
