NYC ----> London
« on: February 03, 2012, 09:13:09 PM »
Hello all!
My husband and I (chs, who wrote here a few days ago) will be moving to London in a month or so. Europe has been a long dream of ours and we are very excited!
I am originally from Canada, but have lived in the US for the last 11 years. I am a painter, so I can't wait to explore the art scene of London. I also love to knit and make things, so I hope the craft community is as vibrant as it is in Brooklyn :)
We use to belong to the CSA here (community supported agriculture) ans hopefully we can find something similar over there. We love to eat out and are very adventurous gastronomically. We also love to cook, drink wine and make fancy cocktails.
Any suggestions on farmer's markets, food shopping, small contemporary galleries, art groups, kitting groups etc would be awesome!
Thanks and looking forward to learning a lot on here :)

Welcome to UKY!

There are tons of galleries in London- there is never enough time to see them all! I'm sure you will be able to find a good artist community here.

As far as CSA's- if you can search Veg Box Schemes for whichever part of London you will be living in. They don't work exactly the same as in NY- but you can still find some good ones.

If you like food markets- I suggest Borough Market, Maltby Street Market and Queen's Market. Eat St is a good street food market.

I just meet up with some girlfriends for craft nights, but have gone to Drink, Shop, Do for their knitting nights (and yummy treats)http://drinkshopdo.com] http://drinkshopdo.com

Good Luck with your move!

Well just wanted to update everyone...we've made it to London! We are currently in a sublet in Islington and trying to figure out if we can afford to stay here. We fell in love with it, but the flat availability is pretty low...and everything is furnished! What's up with that? If we knew, we would not have shipped all our stuff, but that's a question that didn't cross my mind, so I didn't ask it on here. Also, seems like landlords here don't really like cats, another obstacle.
None the less, we feel at home already, it is very close to our Brooklyn neighborhood.
Now I'm REALLY gonna start reading lots on here....so many things to learn!

Yes, many flats come furnished, although you may be able to ask a landlord to move out some of the furniture. But you will have to specifically look for unfurnished place as the general assumption is that flats are furnished.
