Passport Issues...
« on: September 19, 2004, 11:39:25 PM »
Ok, I already posted this once, but I'm not seeing it, so maybe I'm being impatient, but I prefer to look at it as playing it safe.

I'm in the US, getting married to a Brit in April.  We finally decided to get married, send the visa application to New York by mail, honeymoon in the states, then return to London, visa in hand.

One problem:  Will the UK let me in on my old passport (with my maiden name)??  I looked into it, and it seems you have to send the marriage certificate in order to get your name changed on your passport... both of which will be in NY with the visa application.  The "expedited" service for the passport change is 2 weeks--we definitely don't have that kind of time, after waiting for the visa.

Has anyone had this problem?  Any advice??

Thanks,
Anna

Just be sure you purchase your ticket in your maiden name!!!

Passport and ticket names need to match!

See my reply to your other post which essentially concurs with Helena's reply!

I still haven't changed my name in  my passport and we've been married almost a year!  Just make sure that you book your flights under your maiden name.  If there already booked under your married name, you'll just need to make sure you have your marriage certificate with your passport when you enter the UK.  They'll understand that you haven't had time to change your name yet.   :)
