Maximum City, by Suketu Mehta.  A very interesting read about Bombay.

I have just finished Interpreter of Maladies, which is a collection of short stories by an Indian-American author called Jhumpa Lahiri. I would like to read her novel, The Namesake
I have loads of books to read, but I usually go for magazines. Short attention span and all.

She's great, JennyI! And a Rhode Islander, to boot!

I just finished The Brontes Went to Woolworth's by Rachel Ferguson, which I absolutely adored and which now holds the honour of having my favourite title of all time. Now I'm reading The Debt to Pleasure by John Lanchester.

Just finished Citizen Girl by Nicola Kraus & Emma McLaughlin.  I didn't like it nearly as much as their other books - The Nanny Diaries and Dedication.  I find their whole naming concept weird.  In this book, the main character's name is Girl, her boss is Guy, they work for My Company which is financed by The Bank.

I've been making my through George R.R. Martin's 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series, currently about a quarter of the way through the fourth one, 'A Feast for Crows'.

I haven't checked the thread to see if anyone else has read them, so I'll just go ahead and say this: If you're into epic fantasy, these books are for you. I'm a superhuge fantasy nerd and of all the fantasy books I've ever read (an embarrassingly large amount), these are the BEST. They're just amazing - drama, comedy, several subplots going on at once that somehow overlap and connect, surprises and incredible twist endings. And some of the characters are so deliciously evil! I haven't been this excited about books since I read 'The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe' when I was a kid (only because I'm not even going to bring up Harry Potter for fear of being made fun of  :P). Long story short: Read these books. You'll only be cheating yourself if you don't.

I'll stop now, sorry.  ::)
It was most definitely...a THING.

I enjoyed Interpreter of Maladies.  I love short stories.  Like the way you can dip in and out of a collection, in any order.  I'm always reading the latest GRANTA along with whatever book I'm in the middle of.  GRANTA is especially good for tub-reading, along with a goodly supply of Lindor extra-dark truffles to eat.

Oh, I love Jhumpa Lahiri. Haven't read Interpreter of Maladies in ages--must revisit those stories. I also loved The Namesake. Took me a couple of tries to get into it, but once I did, I thought it was fantatic. The movie---not good at all. A terrible adaptation.

I really loved the movie!  But I did see it before I read the book.  I thought the acting was really good in the film...I think DH and I both cried!

Yeah, I think the problem is that I read the book first. I just felt there was so much they left out. Characters that they really didn't explore like they did in the book. But of course that's going to be a problem with any film adaptation, due to length. I did think the acting was good.

If I like a movie adaptation of a book, I have to watch the movie before I read the book. I think there is one book I liked better as a movie, but I can't remember what it was.  ???
