I just finished Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood.  I will either love an Atwood novel or not be able to get a few chapters into it.  After this novel, I've decided I want to go back and retry the ones I couldn't get into.  After reading so many technically clumsy writers recently, her skill was really refreshing.

I just finished the FABULOUS Singled Out: How Two Million Women Survived Without Men After the First World War by Virginia Nicholson.

Now I'm reading The Way Things Are by the wonderful E.M. Delafield.

In the early hours of the morning, I finally finished Middlesex! I bought it three years ago, and started it on a number of occasions, but never got into it. But last week, I finally had some time to devote to it, so I gave it another try and loved it (as I hoped I would based on recommendations). I already want to re-read it.

I can now start the monster that is The Pillars of the Earth. That should keep me busy for a while.

It's a much quicker read than you would think for a behemoth of a book.  I highly recommend finding a copy of David Macaulay's Cathedral to use as a reference.  Makes it even more interesting when you can see what he's writing about!

I'm just about to start Killing Yourself to Live by Chuck Klosterman.  I'm kind of on a memoir kick right now.

The Runaway by Elizabeth Anna Hart - mostly because of Gwen Raverat's lovely woodcut illustrations.

I'm about 1/3 of the way through Moggs' book club recommendation: The Road by Cormac McCarthy.  Very good so far - it's obviously building up to something but I don't know what yet and am very drawn into it....

Next book lined up is to re-read one of my fave books from my English lit major undergrad days (~ 20 years ago):  The Horse's Mouth by Joyce Cary - looking forward to it!

I am reading The Outcast by Sadie Jones.  Enjoying it a lot.  Next up is The Road for the Book Club.  Also sitting on my bedside table waiting to be read:  The Post Birthday World by Lionel Shriver, On Beauty by Zadie Smith and Thames, Sacred River by Peter Ackroyd.  I can't go into another bookstore or Amazon.com until I am done!

I am still reading Hospital, but I got into The Carhullan Army by Sarah Hall.  I wish that books were proofread better these days.  I was about to throw it across the bedroom last night.
